The lamp does look MH to me since I can sort of see the white paint on the ends of the arc tube.

MH lamps do occasionally run on certain MV ballasts though, here's a pic of one in a MV bracket type fixture.

Well, my yardblaster runs a 175w MH lamp just fine. Those china blasters overdrive the lamps anyways.

This looks like it's metal halide to me.
tpirman1982   [Sep 02, 2011 at 02:00 AM]
Correct, mercuryvaporrocks. It is Metal Halide. I've seen 'em lit one night. And the they have red 40 tags. That proves they're metal halide.
GullWhiz   [Sep 02, 2011 at 02:21 AM]
Remember NEMA tags are not 100% correct.....Usually 99% correct or so
joe_347V   [Sep 02, 2011 at 02:26 AM]
Yeah, I've seen fixtures with incorrect tags before as well as some others here.
Antstar85   [Sep 02, 2011 at 02:42 AM]
with the tags.................. i work on streetlights, they are sometimes wrong but not sure with this situation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
joe_347V   [Sep 02, 2011 at 02:43 AM]
Well I guess the only way to find out for sure is to go up and check the ballast. Laughing
Antstar85   [Sep 02, 2011 at 02:54 AM]
yes joe i agree with you.
streetlight98   [Sep 02, 2011 at 03:06 AM]
Well, seeing that all the 125 tags are MH, and the tags are origional, this is infact MH.
GullWhiz   [Sep 02, 2011 at 04:25 AM]
What I know is the GE 400 watt MV ballasts are also MHs.....they often are labeled as "400 watt MV/MH"
Antstar85   [Sep 02, 2011 at 04:51 AM]
I have seen that before in some of the older m-400r3 I have worked on in the past in a substation we have in Pittsfield.
streetlight98   [Sep 02, 2011 at 01:12 PM]
My wallpack said that. The sticker was chipped and in bad shap so i panited over it when i painted it silver.
Form109   [Sep 03, 2011 at 03:55 AM]
The china blasters overdrive lamps?...it is my understanding that those 175 Watt Regent Blasters actually drive the lamps at 150 Watts which would be slightly under-driven.
joe_347V   [Sep 03, 2011 at 03:56 AM]
I thought the 100w blasters overdrove slightly?
GullWhiz   [Sep 03, 2011 at 02:50 PM]
It actually varies from my experience....
streetlight98   [Sep 03, 2011 at 02:51 PM]
Underdrive, overdrive, i don't know off hand. It varies between comapnies. The point is they don't operate at the wattage they're suposed to. My 175w yardblaster can light up a 250w merc to full brightness and i don't have a regent one.
GullWhiz   [Sep 03, 2011 at 02:55 PM]
Are you sure its a full brightness..or does it appear to be Rolling Eyes

Buy one of those then test it with MV fixture...and look at result....subtract by between 10-25 watts (because of the ballast loss) and it is running around there....

NOTICE Best not to use those on fixtures with ignitor without any surge protector in front of it because I killed one of those with a fixture that couldn't light up a lamp!!!!
streetlight98   [Sep 03, 2011 at 03:01 PM]
I don't have a watt meter, but it was definetly running at full brightness. It took a lot longer, though.
GullWhiz   [Sep 03, 2011 at 08:57 PM]
Get one...they are cheap....and trust me it appears to be full brightness...but it really isn't!
