GE M-400A
Here's a old GE M-400A still in use. I guess it was transferred over from a older pole since the current pole is a newer concrete one. Not sure if HPS or MV but my bet is on it being HPS.

Note the two 1980s CGE 8-8-8 signals still in use too, they have been converted to LED but a 8-8-8 is still a rare find nowadays.

Where Is this?! Razz
joe_347V   [Aug 11, 2013 at 03:09 AM]
It's in Barrie, Razz It seems they kept their 8-8-8s on smaller streets. You'll probably see it if you go to the Restore there.

Gahh! I should have known by the newer looking CGE's Laughing , I didn't see any 8-8-8's there though because I haven't been to that area yet.

Yeah the rectangular CGE logo is the last one before Fortran took over the CGE signal line.
Hanging Light   [Aug 12, 2013 at 03:55 AM]
The hangers for a lot of them are still shiny Laughing

I wonder if they replaced the hangers when they put the concrete pole in. There's a bunch of old CGE signals in Toronto with new looking hangers too.
Hanging Light   [Aug 12, 2013 at 04:06 AM]
I haven't seen any of the really new hangers anywhere except for barrie, Brampton has a few CGE's that look somewhat new on Kennedy

I believe Toronto has some pretty new CGE signals and even some from the Fortran era (basically the CGE design but with Fortran stamped on the back). There's a couple of CGE/Fortran beacons here in Markham that were installed in 1999 and are probably the last signals of that style made.

I noticed that two types of hangers exist too, the boxy Fortran one (like in the pic) and the more rounded Powerlite/Al-Struct one. The Eagle Flatback signal in the linked pic saw some use in Toronto (Dundas/McCaul, 427/Rathburn, and 427/Burnhamthrope among other places). Another rare signal is the Crouse Hinds Type M signal, I only know of one left in Toronto and that light is scheduled for replacement as a new Fortran light is now up. (401/Islington)

I came by here today, there are quite a few 8-8-8's there. IMO there are more of them there than any other city in Ontario. They use what appears to beyellow tape on the CGE signals. Essa Road i think is the only place where they have GE M-400's in Barrie Sad
joe_347V   [Oct 13, 2013 at 06:32 PM]
Yeah it seems Barrie is one of the few places that still has a fair bit of 8-8-8s still in use. Toronto used to have a lot of 8-8-8s in the late 90s but they got replaced with 12-8-8s starting in the mid 2000s or so.

Yeah New Tecumseth also has quite a few I forgot all about that place. Even most of the traffic/Ped signals are Incandescent and the walk on the bottom is still in use Cool

Nice find! Shocked I looked it on up Streetview and it looks like they still have a fair bit of CGEs too. It's not everyday you still see incandescent CGE peds and 8-8-8s still in use. Cool
Model25FanForever   [Oct 14, 2013 at 10:19 PM]
Yeah its the only place I know of that still has them. Some of they're eagle's are incandescent too. The newer intersections use LED Fortrans. No timers though. IMO it looks ugly when they only use the top for both the hand and walk but leave the bottom disconnected.

On Hwy 11 there are some MTO 400 and Barrie street signs on the ground just north of those alien lights after the merge. Smile
joe_347V   [Oct 15, 2013 at 04:02 AM]
I believe there's still some incandescent traffic lights left in the Milton area too. And yeah, I'm not a fan of leaving the bottom disconnected. Don't mind the Toronto style conversions though, they put a timer in the bottom so it's no longer blank.
Model25FanForever   [Oct 15, 2013 at 01:34 PM]
Wow this interesction uses both LED's with timers and the old Incandescent ped signals including the bottom. I find that to be increbily cool. Having the old with the new Cool

Are those CGE ped's and Econolite peds? Confused
joe_347V   [Oct 16, 2013 at 12:15 AM]
Well, I've only seen one type of Econolite ped here (the poly one with the bubble back) so if it dosen't look like that then its a CGE ped. I wonder how many fibre optic ped and arrow inserts are left in Ontario, they used to be quite popular but they got killed off quickly when LED came in.
