Here's an old style fibre optic MTO message sign that's no longer used in Ontario, the newer signs are wider and can display a extra line of text. The newer signs also has a area on the sides to display symbols...the newest design I believe can display symbols anywhere on the sign.
This sign and it's gantry was replaced sometime in 2010 with a new style full matrix sign.
