Re-Store find! New Abolite 175 watt MH highbay.
I actually saw this when I got that post top, I debated whether I should get this or the post-top, but I got the post-top instead. Then I came back today and got this! It was 10 dollars, very nice! The lamp that came with it didn't work well, so I used a lamp I already had.

I hung this in the garage (where it is in the pic) and it is going to be used to light inside the garage.

Since it is a temporary setup (since I am moving out soon) I didn't really set it up to code. xD The old incandescent socket is still there, I put a hook (in a stud) on the ceiling and hooked the highbay on that since the Highbay had a hook on it. (How convenient. xD) and put a plug on the fixture and plugged it in the socket (and used a medium base socket-plug thing) So you can turn this on the switch. Lights up nicely!

I hope the hook is mounted to a beam and not the dry wall. Razz If it's mounted to the drywall you'll be sorry...
icefoglights   [Jan 05, 2012 at 11:21 PM]
In the description it says he put it into one.
streetlight98   [Jan 06, 2012 at 12:15 AM]
No, he put a stud in te ceiling. He never specified if it was on a beam. Most likely it is sicne it probably would've fallen withen a couple of hours if this is heavy enough.
joe_347V   [Jan 06, 2012 at 01:03 AM]
He probably meant a beam, although to be technical it should be called a joist. Laughing

Why do the Laughing Flash blue now ? Are they infected. By :mv
joe_347V   [Jan 06, 2012 at 04:40 AM]
I've seen the Laughing do that on my phone before too.
icefoglights   [Jan 06, 2012 at 04:42 AM]
They look normal to me, both on my computer and iPad.
A_lights   [Jan 06, 2012 at 04:44 AM]
Strange, yeah looks unnormal on iPod touch and fine on my phone Shocked
gailgrove   [Jan 06, 2012 at 04:53 AM]
They look fine on my iPod...

I guess this is what Aaron was talking about, the Laughing and Rolling Eyes seem to occasionally flash blue in my iPhone.

Back to the high bay, I saw a whole bunch of the same model and same wattage at the Colorado Mills mall in a store. I forget which store but it was close to one of the entrances. I wonder if that is where my high bay came from... But it could of came from anywhere.

But still a nice little light. I like it.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Jan 19, 2012 at 06:33 PM]
I usually see these go for $15 on craigslist, nice light by the way.
joe_347V   [Jan 19, 2012 at 07:40 PM]
I saw one of those 2x2 recessed 175w MH highbays (the ones that look like a parabolic troffer) sell for 25 at Restore before.
LilCinnamon   [Apr 28, 2012 at 08:09 PM]
This highbay now acts funky. You turn the light on it starts brightening up then it starts to flicker then just shuts off completely. Then after some time.. Probably 5 minutes or more, it turns back on and lights up perfectly. What i the problem? Is it the lamp or is it the ballast?
joe_347V   [Apr 29, 2012 at 12:05 AM]
Hmm, it could be the thermal relay cycling...is the ballast overheating? Either that or try using a merc lamp in it and see if it still does that.
A_lights   [Apr 29, 2012 at 01:56 AM]
It is probably the MH lamp, I've had some 400W ones do that
TiCoune66   [Apr 29, 2012 at 02:35 AM]
The lamp may be close to EOL. It probably rectifies on a cold start but once the arctube is warm the second strike lights it up completely.
streetlight98   [Apr 30, 2012 at 12:14 AM]
You mentioned using a E26-outlet adapter. Those don't provide a ground so could that be a factor?
gailgrove   [Apr 30, 2012 at 12:16 AM]
Highbays don't have thermal relays as far as I know, I'd say it's the lamp, and ground this thing! It is unsafe to just power it from a lamp holder. Shocked
