This ballast is most likely 240X480. Assuming this has no PC receptacle, the M-1000 was made with the following voltage taps reading off my catalog: 120X240; 208; 277; 240X480; 480. I'll post a copy of my PDF...
I am not sure if it IS a 240 x 480 ballast. I have no information on the ballast what-so-ever. They might of forgot to replace this ballast and it might of been a 120 x 240 volt ballast, I am not sure. Just the other two had 480 volts replacements they might of upgraded the voltage from a lower one to 480...
One possible situation is that the M1000s originally ran on 277V, then the replacement ballasts got connected to 480V instead, so maybe there was a mix of 277V and 480V fixtures.
Well since the others had 480 volt ballasts, this one most likely has a 240X480 ballast because this is definetly dual voltage since you can rewire it to work. What puzzles me is that I thought a 240v item wouldn't work at all on 120.
Well normally it wouldn't strike but I guess because 1kW ballasts have a OCV of around 430V even teh 240v tap has a step up so when connected to 120v it stepped the 120 to a voltage that was enough to strike a MV.
The funny things THIS M-1000 wasn't painted over but the other two look like they went over them and painted them a whitish color. So they must of did something with the fixtures. I am not sure.
I see, well they sometimes go for 30. There is another 1kW MH ballast (pulse start w/ lamp) with a starting bid of $1 though, although the price seems a bit too low. Search for "Ge Multi Vapor 1000 W Bt 37".
When it comes to caps, I depend on Don Scalf, he helped me with caps on a very compication connections using 175 watt MH ballast and THREE caps, 2 in series and to one in paralell....ill let him know about this post....so I suggest you to wat till Don comes in to this post...
I don't think it's the capacitors... I remember wiring my 480 volt (singe tap) Magnetek 250 watts MV ballast in a way and then the lamp IGNITED but then it didn't brighten up all the way, it went to a certain brightness and stopped. Like this one did. And that was a looong time ago when I first got the ballast.
