Nifty! AE fixtures look good painted, however I'd definitely leave canadian fixtures unpainted.

i liked it Better Bare...but it still looks good.

Looks good! I would have left it bare tho and when you get a 113 repaint that, then you will have both bare and painted versions.

I noticed the latch here looks different....
gailgrove   [Mar 01, 2010 at 08:16 PM]
Well I like them better un-painted but thats me, although I think you should leave the OVX bare.
streetlight98   [Nov 02, 2010 at 09:55 PM]
The paint color is way off.

I do like bare better....more vintage look
Form109   [Nov 03, 2010 at 07:40 AM]
is this close to the silver paint that silverliners were painted?....Bare 115's look especially vintage.
GullWhiz   [Nov 03, 2010 at 02:28 PM]
Silverliners used Hammered Finish Silver
gmercury2000   [Jan 24, 2011 at 02:49 AM]
I think it looks good either way. Though like said it is a little darkre than what AE paints them it still looks good w/ that dark gray finish!
GullWhiz   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:03 AM]
Gmercury....do you notice how quickly shiny new streetlights gets all unshiny? From what I see it seems Grey streetlights tend to be more obvious on wear than silver........and often the top of fixture loses all the paint while bottom retains paint....but its not as noticeable on silver streetlights...
gmercury2000   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:07 AM]
True but Ii seems that the AE's actually loose their paint in chinks as to where the GE's just tend to fade over time. Like you said though it's less noticable w/ silver fixtures if you look closely you can see the same over time
GullWhiz   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:12 AM]
It seems Coopers are the ones that hold paint better than AEs in the 80s cuz a lot of OVZs in my area still retains the paints....same for OVX all over!
gmercury2000   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:15 AM]
Yeah they are pretty good, there are tone of OVZ's in the Lanham area in PG county. The biggest issue with those is when they were installed the bird guards were removed and w/ the large opening @ the slipfitter it is all too common to have large bird nests in them which destroys the paint mostly on the doors
GullWhiz   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:21 AM]
The OVZs are pretty common in Howard County as HPS upgrade from/ the late 80s early 90s....such as in Ellcott city and iwe got some in mercs too....aqlso the OVZs are common on gavelized steel poles 6 foot arms in howard County...
gmercury2000   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:31 AM]
Yeah I've seen them all over in merc, mostly 175w and all the HPS are 100/150w ballast. In PG they are mostly FCO 100w on 4 & 10 ft arm. There are others w/ drop lense but what I described above is what I see to be most common
GullWhiz   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:37 AM]
Howard county mostly drop lens HPS for the upgrade ones...but I see FCO ones too as replacement or in newer installation of the last installed Aluminum 6 foot bronze poles installed in mid 90s I believe
gailgrove   [Jan 24, 2011 at 03:58 AM]
I've found that AEL's tend to lose there paint in chips too, and GE's fade, but we don't have any painted Coopers so I can't really comment on them.
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2011 at 10:42 PM]
Yeah, GEs fade, AE's chip, and Coopers tend to last. I've seen some OVS's from the 80's that still have their paint.
