Yeah, when i got my M-400 in fifth grade, I had no idea what it was. I was carrying it down stairs and it was so heavy that I accidently dropped it down the hardwood stairs. It was still unopened and luckily the guy knew how to pack, so there wasn't any damage to the light (or the stairs).
Yep. Not the slightest injury to the light. Just some slight paint wear on the top and some scratches on the bottom of the refractor door from being stored in a warehouse for 40 years.
Yeah it was a bit pricey, but I don't mind paying more if it's high quality or if it's vintage. There are tons of M-400 split doors here (most if not all are 250w HPS from the factory). I've always wanted one and noe i have one.
Shipping to me was $52.46 from South carolina to RI. The fixture itself was $80.75. I printed out a sheet when it was being sold. When these first appeared they were being sold as a lot of twelve for over $1000. i guess the guy figured out they sell better as single units. Here's the description:
"One GE M-400 Luminaire Street/Parking Light, new in a box, unused, surplus, old stock. They have been stored in their origional boxes in a warehouse for quite some time and most if not all the boxes are worn out and torn and will have to be shipped in different boxes, but the fixtures are in new, unused condition. They have lens and ballasts installed. No lamps included. You will get one of these lights pictured below."
I have A sheet i printed out of it. The document itself is long gone. BTW; Ian can you post i pic just of the M-400R2 NEMA tag? Please try to make the numbers as clear as possible. I have an idea.

And yeah I remember that auction, in fact I have some saved pics lying around on my hard drive.
