FCO isn't glary until you look directly at the reflector, then it becomes very glary. I think drop lens lights are much more consistent for one, I have an idea about a possible night shot showing some FCO vs drop refractor that I may be able to take soon.
m@   [Jan 27, 2012 at 08:45 PM]
exactly, stay clear of catching a view of FCO in the wrong driection. Yeah FCO's can appear they just turned on as you approach underneath. Nice, I will be anticipating a night shot comparison.

Yeah, looking at FCO in the wrong way can be quite blinding at night. I'm anticipating your comparision too Niall.
gailgrove   [Jan 27, 2012 at 09:58 PM]
Hopefully it will turn out better than this... Laughing

IMO, they should make FCO fixtures with a frosted glass so the glare isn't so extreme and so coated lamps don't have to be used.
Form109   [Jan 28, 2012 at 06:19 AM]
they've already made fixtures like that.
streetlight98   [Jan 28, 2012 at 04:55 PM]
Can you show me an example? I sure have never seen that...
joe_347V   [Jan 28, 2012 at 05:13 PM]
I believe Dave has a fixture with a diffused lens...his OV 15 TuDor.

Attention Ontario, Canada people... brampton is a whole phase behind (it's not about FCO anymore, but LED), mississauga could start a WHOLE CITY LED retrofit this summer, let the war begin.

Hmm, it looks like at this rate HPS could be gone within the next ten years, I know Vaughan already has a lot of LEDs. Fortunately Markham only recently switched to FCO HPS and Toronto still installs new drop lens.
streetlight98   [Feb 15, 2012 at 11:55 AM]
They're gonna be sorry they switched to LED after a while. I personally think everyone should wait until LEDs improve more and until the prices comes down. There is no need to switch to LED now because the fixtures cost too much and the quailty isn't determined.

Just wondering, where did you hear that? I hope it isn't true, than again it could be a way to get a bunch of lights. From the guy I know at Mississuga Hydro he liked CMH better. I wonder if the real agenda for the new lights was to be able to convert them to LED with the least possible cost and effort? If Brampton goes LED, along with the rest of the GTA then its game over for my collecting. Crying or Very sad On a side note both sets of lights where on last night for some reason. Confused

Hmm I wonder why Mississauga decided to go LED, since the last I checked they were testing induction near Dixie and Dundas.

I also wonder why almost no utilities in the GTA aside from Toronto really considered using CMH streetlights. Confused

Well, my city is in the process of a full LED change out as we all saw my road was replaced to LED this week. Mad Hopefully my work will stay away from full LED replacements but the way things are changing here, I doubt that will happen.
m@   [Feb 16, 2012 at 03:18 AM]
I tried to paste the press release from the mississagua city website about the full city LED replacement movement...but it deleted the link. I found out on the news, the 91 year old mayor is like "for the first time the city is borrowing money, and its for replacing all streetlights to LED, we'll get full return on invenstment in 8 years based on energy savings". LOL, You can't ask for a better bulk deal order though. There are some interesting LEDs on a road near square one mall already.

@gail, the twistpack is putting up a fighht! but there are actually TONS of twistpacks left in the city if you look for the hoods.

@jow: CMH seems to not radiate light as well as HPS to our eyes, and toronto seems to only use them in populated downtoawn areas with a lot of other retail lights already on.

oh! the cooper light of this thread comes in an LED verson, which is one of the first HPS bodies i've seen come in LED. Maybe brampton will sneak some in, and we'll only find out by going on scavenger hunts to see if any will be LED down the road haha.

I found where it said that the proposal was going to be presented before council, but nothing saying it had been approved... I then emailed the city of Mississauga who took the lazy way out and directed me to Enersource Rolling Eyes like the contractor can help me. I emailed them back again to see what they say. Yes I know there are plenty of TwistPaks in Brampton, however they are all going to be replaced if the city of Brampton has it's way. Rolling Eyes
mercuryvaporrocks   [Feb 16, 2012 at 01:51 PM]
Tarentum Borough is also talking about replacing hundreds of HID streetlights in the near future with LED's. Rolling Eyes
gailgrove   [Feb 16, 2012 at 02:05 PM]
This wouldn't just be hundreds, this would be 49,000 streetlights heading to the scrapyard!
Antstar85   [Feb 16, 2012 at 05:15 PM]
All of holyokes lights are on the way to the dumpster, which Is about 5,500 are in their way to the scrap dumpster, I'd say a 1/3 of the city has now been replaced.
gailgrove   [Feb 27, 2012 at 04:04 AM]
Alright, I got an update on Friday. It is true sadly, Mississauga will be replacing all of their streetlights with LED, it's starting this summer. Crying or Very sad Mad Rolling Eyes
