This pole despite being less than two years old also snapped in half, you can see the old pole it replaced is still there! It has an OVX on it which appears undamaged. This was one of nine poles in a row that fell.
I guess it also KO'd the power to the traffic lights.
In the Thornhill/North York area I can across some intersections where the signals still had power along with half the streetlights and in other places the signals were dead but the half the streetlights were still on.
I've noticed the quality of lumber has gone way downhill. I think it's partly due to the fact that the lumber companies are speeding up the treatment process, affecting the quality and also consumers aren't willing to pay more so they lower the quality to make it cheaper. Same with residential grade lights. Fluorescents and HIDs made for homes are made from the thinnest metal and cheapest quality because people don't want to pay a lot for a light fixture. Though you get what you pay for. If you go and buy a nice commercial/industrial fluorescent fixture from an electrical distributor you're going to pay more but you're gonna get a better quality product. Same case where you buy a cobrahead street light for your backyard instead of a yardblaster. The street light will cost more but last a LOT longer and plus it controls the light better so your yard is brighter with less glare and your neighbors don't start WWIII with you because of ligth shining in their windows.
