Here is another pole that is crumbling, as you can see it has a "X" on it which means it will likely go in about a month, I hope to get the R47 and arm from this one.
They replaced a bunch of crumbling poles in my area last summer too around mid July, and replaced a lot of the old Powerlites, and glare shielded OV25s with new Cooper and AEL lumes.
Toronto also replaced some crumbling poles in mid 09 or so but they saved the old arm and lume...a good thing because some of the lumes were Unidor 400s.
@dbz77 I know its not the best, I'll try to go back and get a better one before they come down, @Joseph it would be nice if they kept the old arms and fixtures but apparently they refuse to do that and 115s will replace these
Metal pole can rust, these have been here for 40 years so I think this is understandable, we use metal poles too but not as often, concrete is also simpler to install and maintain.
Update: These poles are now gone and replaced but ... the fixtures and arms are not! They actually reused the R47s and 6 ft arms!
Although from what I understand the entire street will be upgraded at some point in the future, it sure needs it (although I'll be sad to see all the Powerlites and OV-15s go)
They replaced a bunch of power poles earlier this year and they reused the arms and FCO B2255s, but now they're removing the B2255s and installing AE125s along with some long arms too.
They're digging up the road to add some bus lanes in the median and replacing all the cobras with something like the lights on St Clair when the porject is done
theres a B2255 on one of these short poles still in use. There was one with a Model 25 down the road before road widening. It was the last pole in the series replaced before the end of the construction zone

Hope you save that R47 though.
But really metal poles can rust, concrete poles can chip and wood poles will rot, and all the road salt we use also makes them decay faster.
