My First HID Lamp
About 5 years ago before I was even into Lighting I was watching them change a street light lamp on my street, however when they where doing it they dropped this on the ground, so I went and took it. This is a 70 watt HPS GE lamp, it does not work.

My first HPS was a Philips 100 watt from 1997...it is not an ALTO and it had 9 years of service before the pole broke and fell down...I didn't take the ballast...it was before I knew much about it....but I got the lamp which the socket shell which broke off of the lamp and was found on the grass.....the lamp mostly cycles..but it worked FINE when it last was up there...it seems to cycle on some ballasts but works on others...

I tired this in one of my Twist-Paks ballast but it didn't work (and I know the ballast works) I could try it with a few more ballasts but taking into it was being replaced it likely doesn't work at all

Try it on pulse start MH ballast for a short time....

My friend has found some HPS lamps that wouldn't start at all where it was reportred and replacing lamp solved problem and he gives me the lamp that didn't work..I go home try it in my HPS ballast...boom it works perfectly Rolling Eyes

I know how you feel...hey lucky you have 1000 watt HPS ballast I don't even have....try it on that ballast....but do it for a short time...really short time....just use it to see if it starts up that's all.....
gailgrove   [Nov 01, 2010 at 09:38 PM]
Yeah thats true Smile I might do that but I don't want it blowing up either, I think my next ballast investment will be a 175 watt MV/MH ballast so I can test my 175 watt Life-guards when they arrive Very Happy

Well if you use a probe start type ballast you will need a BBQ ignitor or connect an ignitor to it.......
gailgrove   [Nov 01, 2010 at 09:44 PM]
Why would I need to do that Jace?
GullWhiz   [Nov 01, 2010 at 09:58 PM]
HPS needs high voltage to start up.... Question
gailgrove   [Nov 01, 2010 at 10:00 PM]
I know that, I wasn't talking about using the HPS on the MV ballast I just thought I would mention I will probably get one Wink
