In my opinion, I don't think LED is fit for streetlighting, I do think they're good for traffic lights though since they're more visible than those incandescent ones which are very difficult to see sometimes during the day especially if it's really sunny out.
LED's aren't bad you know, I agree with Medved, LED lighting isn't bad, you can get an LED as bright as a 400w HPS at like 100 or 150 watts.. or even less!
When you see an LED streetlight fixture, it looks ugly, but the reason is it has to look a certain way for it to last longer.
Also, lots of people don't even care for streetlights, (I mean people that aren't us) So pretty much if they create enough light and light the road well, It doesn't matter.
I would personally like to see LED Streetlights installed around Denver, there are none, all HPS. In fact I would like an LED Streetlight fixture myself.
LED's are not bad at all. I still prefer HID, but LEDs are getting better and better each day.
@Form 109 [induction]: I think induction is dead way. Their power coupling will never be as efficient as hot electrode concept, as they would always radiate copious amount of power as an electromagnetic field, what are at fist losses and as second troubles for radio communication (output from an efficient ballast would be very rich in harmonics, while filtering causes losses). And if you noticed, "classical" hot cathode concept fluorescent lamps appeared in the mean time with rated life 75+khours, what is the expected induction life as well. And fluorescent system would always cost far less...
@Form109 [language]: I'm sorry for it, i learned English only from it's use (method "jump to the water and try to survive"), so i'm not able to judge well, how much offensive some words are (hope you are referring to the now "starred" word, otherwise be more exact, please)
Does the OV10 use the same refractor pattern as your M250R2? if not than I doubt this would fit? It might be about half the brightness of a 70 watt HPS at most - not very bright.
no, the OV10 pattern is unique to Westinghouse. I mentioned it because it looks like there's some extra space in the 13 reflector and the panal looks to have a similar outline as the OV10 lens.

no way 100W 0f LEDs is going to replace a 400W hps
i'll Take HPS over LED's anyday.
@form109 yeah so would I
LOL Joseph!
