I've always wondered why MH and some HPS lamps utilize a brass base, which get stuck in the sockets, versus an aluminum base that mercury vapor lamps have that don't get stuck.

Well it depends on the manufacture, I own several HPS lamps with aluminium bases (my 1KW one) and MV lamps with brass bases (all of them actually)

I know Sylvania mercury lamps are aluminum based, but Sylvania's metalarc and HPS lamps are brass. The brass ones get stuck and I don't care for them that much.

My 1KW Sylvania HPS has an aluminium base, so do all two of my EYE lamps.

Hmm. It must just be by ramdom. I find the same thing with incandescent lamps. Sometimes I'll find aluminum and brass mixed in a box! 1 of let's say 4 lamps might have a brass base. For indoor use, the brass doesn't weather so it doesn't get stuck, so brass on incandescents doesn't bother me.
