I finally figured out the vertical stuff on the chart, it's for the socket's vertical positioning in the reflector, see here for the instructions.

I'm a bit confused about those instructions... It isn't actually vertical mounting if I understand correctly.

From what my understanding is there's two different socket adjustments on the R47, the horizontal indicated with the letters and the vertical indicated by the numbers. So for each lamp type there is a horizontal and vertical position for optimal distribution.
