M-250R installed on the Brand-New Set-Up
|
Got tired of waiting for a new pole that's probably not coming (my grandpa definitely does mean well but time management isn't his specialty lol) so I drilled a 3/4" holes through the section of 4X4 I sistered up against the deck post and mounted the 24" AE bracket I had on the old set-up directly to this. Seems nice and sturdy. The M-250R is like 30-35 pounds. The light likes to "bounce" up and down and back and fourth on the mast in the wind even though the mast arm is secure to the post. I guess the fixture's weight is a factor of that.
This set-up is slightly shorter than my old set-up, since I can touch the bottom of the glass when I stand on my toes. (I'm 5ft 4.5" so most people could probably just reach up and touch it lol). Man this thing looks great, back out doing faithful service (well, part-time service lol). I probably won't use this much until spring since it still sports the extension cord so I'd have to run a cord across the yard to light it. Not fun in 2ft of snow and it's only used when needed and we're not outside in the winter at night and if we are it's for a few minutes at a time so this would be useless in that instance.
The fixture is tilted upward but on the mast arm, it's actually tilted down. The mast arm tilts way up because it's designed for a wood pole, not a flat surface. So the slipfitter is leveled downward but the fixture still tilts upward. I wanted an upward tilt but not a huge tilt.
The lamp is a NOS or near NOS /DX GE from the 1980s that I bought at the ReStore a year or two ago (got it with an NOS 400W /C Sylvania from the late 60s). The Photocell is a tall Ripley from around 1970. Those tall Ripleys just look awesome on silver M-250Rs. This one is very sensitive too. I had to give it an eye transplant when I got it. Works like a champ now! I might actually tape off part of the window to make it turn on earlier lol.

But, for now the 175W MV M-250R does the trick just fine too lol. I want to see if I can get a 175W Mh to strike on this fixture. I doubt it. I tried once and it didn't work. Also, seethe birdhouse? Maybe the birds will be courteous enough to built their next in that instead of inside my light like they did with the M-250A. The M-250A didn't hav a bird guard though, this M-250R has an aluminum bird guard so nuthin's gettin in.
Still have to install my M-400A2 on this to see what it looks like and how bright it is. Maybe I'll install my OV-25 remote ballast now that I have a nice sturdy mount. I can also maybe put my OV-10IB outside too. I actually think the OV-10IB is lighter than the M-250R so the arm would probably be better off. The M-400A2 and M-250R are probably pretty close in weight lol.
