Residential Cree XSP with Backlight Shield Install
This neighbourhood is undergoing an LED changeover replacing all the remaining HPS fixtures. Some have been left alone in various places for a few weeks now. The HPS 115 that was left alone here until recently has been out several times in recent years. Im wondering if the wiring is going bad on this pole. This Cree XSP has a backlight shield i guess due to this pole lighting up the T -shaped intersection. Note all the other XSP's in use here are the small 30 watt fixtures. I posted this exact same light about 7 years ago on here as well when it was an AE115 here as well

I forgot we still had amount of S arms. I figure they would not bother changing these as they tend to replace the full system of temporary wired old equipment as a contracted project. Although these may have always been span wired.

These normally get replaced now as full relighting projects

Hmm, there are a few S arms that survived in Markham too. Mostly on wood poles. I think there were originally concrete poles with S arms too but I think those got new arms when they went to HPS.

Yeah these only ever popped up in this one area of Brampton from the 60's. A, B, and C section only got these underbraced lights with gumballs. This was also considered "Bramalea" subdivision install back before Brampton & Bramalea were merged. Other areas like the D,E,F,G,H,I were fully post top powerlite. (cant remember the name for them) later became the twistpaks. Other sections like J,N,M were mostly powerlite shoebox

Interesting. I took a look on Google around Bramalea and it does seem like some of the older sections had there arms are one point, they're tapered e arms now but you can see the marks on the pole that the s arms left.

Wondering whether all those poles with the tapered arms had the underbraced arms removed while replacing the gumballs if they weren't in great shape. All the powerlites seem that they were installed around the same time

I think it was a common trend to replace the underbraced arms with tapered arms when switching to cobras especially in Toronto.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 14, 2020 at 01:33 PM]
Yeah its evident in the some areas of Toronto they replaced most of the old gumballs. Several vintage photos have shown gumballs used in areas like; Weston, North York, etc

Yeah I think parts of Etobicoke and Scarborough used to have gumballs on the side streets and clamshells on the main streets. Scarborough I believe used to have those mini McGraw Edison MV lights with the integrated ballast on side streets.

Well they removed this horrible wiring job and replaced this cree again with another cree. Now a Cree XSPSM racquet fixture is up alike the rest of the subdivision.

Last week several subdivisions had all the cree's flashing as if there was a street rave Laughing

I used to think the flashing was always driver failure but apparently when the wireless control loses the signal from the central controller it'll flash the fixture too. Kinda an annoying feature if you ask me. Better off falling back to PC operation and lighting a small red lamp in the node itself if you ask me.

Yeah i thought when the signal goes they stay on instead of flicker. Mississauga's are all on wireless controls, they have a lot of day-burners there probably because they've lost signal
