Or if someone screws this into an HID fixture with the ballast connected like a yardblaster or something lol
joe_347V   [Aug 05, 2013 at 11:17 PM]
What if someone screwed a incandescent or a HID in the induction fixture? I guess you'll probably blow the driver.
streetlight98   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:15 AM]
mogul based CFL on the induction ballast. Shocked Laughing
A_lights   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:21 AM]
i would try it but yeah don't want to ruin anything, and its expensive stuff! Wink
streetlight98   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:30 AM]
lol yeah i wouldn't ever experiment with brand new induction gear. this stuff isn't cheap, like you said!
A_lights   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:32 AM]
just watch in a few years they will want a silly LED conversion or something! Rolling Eyes
streetlight98   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:38 AM]
I've seen places that convert to induction and LED use fluorescent or HID spot replacements. I guess replacement induction and LEd crap is too pricey. I don't see anything wrong with fluorescents and HID. Confused
A_lights   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:40 AM]
yeah and we can't fix them because we only got the contract to install/retrofit not replace, so who knows when the stuff fails what will happen, my guess is cheap CFLs and just disconnect the ballasts
streetlight98   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:44 AM]
Hmm. yeah i wonder how long the stuff will last. I think the kind of work you do is really cool but if i were you i'd be hoarding all the old ballasts i remove and my parents would hate me. Laughing With he situation I'm in right now though i'd probably end up sellng them on eBay anyways lol.
A_lights   [Aug 06, 2013 at 12:49 AM]
i only save the best of the ballasts, the rest just goes into the recycle bin, we get money for the HID ballasts for sure, probably not anything on the electronic ballasts though, and i have thought about ebaying some for $10 starting bid, i already offered them on LG and here but only 1 taker, i have close to 60 ballasts, most being MH 175W and 150W a few 400W too

a typical store has about 30 ballasts come from it, we usually do 2 per day
streetlight98   [Aug 06, 2013 at 01:00 AM]
yeah i'd love a few ballasts but really I can't afford it. I thought i could afford a couple but i checked and i really can't. Sad
A_lights   [Aug 06, 2013 at 01:02 AM]
well i certainly wont ebay them ALL thats for sure, i will have em for a long time stored in the attic
joe_347V   [Aug 06, 2013 at 07:01 AM]
That's good to know, I think we'll all be knocking on your door if HID get banned and we need replacement ballasts. Laughing Razz
A_lights   [Aug 06, 2013 at 01:02 PM]
if they do get banned i will save every working one i can just like magnetic RS ballasts
joe_347V   [Aug 06, 2013 at 08:08 PM]
Yeah, I probably will too if they got banned too. I guess if HID does get banned everyone will be using LED at that point. Shocked Neutral
streetlight98   [Aug 07, 2013 at 03:31 AM]
me too. yeah LED is akready starting to become the standard. more people are switched to LED than any other "green" light source combined it seems, at least here. I still see new parking lots get PSMH though which is nice but for how much longer...
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Aug 07, 2013 at 03:33 AM]
I see new LED installations all the time. I think it's kinda cool actually...but not when it replaces old MV fixtures! I saw some old Appleton MV floods at a cannery that are retrofitted to large spirals!
joe_347V   [Aug 07, 2013 at 03:44 AM]
Yeah, I've noticed that most new mall parking lots tend to come with LED fixtures now instead of PSMH or HPS like the malls built in the 2000s. HPS is still the dominant source in streetlights though.
streetlight98   [Aug 07, 2013 at 04:13 AM]
Here larger parkign lots with like 35-40ft tall shoeboxes are mostly PSMH like supermarkets, malls, walmarts, etc whereas smaller parking lots like burger kings and churches and schools are going LED. I've seen a local condo place go induction a few years back using the lamps that look like circlines.
A_lights   [Aug 10, 2013 at 12:51 AM]
guess what! discovered these lamps DON'T work when too close to a grounded metal reflector. sliding the socket further down stopped the dim flickering a few of them were doing, the ballasts got really hot when the lamps weren't lighting up Shocked
