teledyne LED strips
Walgreens uses these starting in about 2005 and newer stores instead of neon, but these have lots of issues too! Many have dimmed out,so I've replaced them, the current is so high that when something shorts it burns up pretty good they're only 24 V I think
The drivers fail every now and then too, but we replace them with advance Xitanium 24 V 100W drivers
Teledyne is out of business now so we're using up remaining led strips, they have industrial grade sticky foam.on the back which holds them in and the connectors plug in

Here is your answer on those LEDs versus Neon lighting Razz

and now we have used up all the teledyne LED strips. .the signs with outages have to be completely retrofitTed

Sounds tacky. Seeing that the adhesive is industrial grade, do you just leave the old ones in and install the new stuff around it? What do you mean by retrofitted? Like a whole new sign or just a different brand of LED tape?

ive managed to rip the old ones out when id replace them..they will have to be complely gutted and replaced with a sloan 12V red LED system(teledyne is 24V) which mounts with 1/4" self tapping screws. basically a similar looking thing as seen here just way more reliable! i havent actually had to reppace amy sloan LED's and the oldest omes are from 2009..however i have changed a few drivers/power supplies..although even those fail less than the teledynes did, and considering how many stores there are they seem reliable..even more so than neon!

Interesting. If you were short on time or drivers, could you wire two Sloan 12V circuits in series off the Teledyne 24V driver or does that not work? I've noticed that LED backlit signs are much dimmer than fluorescent or neon backlit signs.
A_lights   [Feb 14, 2015 at 05:59 PM]
no that wouldn't work, and if a teledyne driver is bad its not an issue advance makes a 24V 100W power supply which typicallly powers 2-3 letters such as WAL,GRE,NS is usually the way they are set up
in terms of brightness the sloan led is a lot better than the teledyne and on par with neon
streetlight98   [Feb 14, 2015 at 11:29 PM]
Ah at least there's a pretty good LED retrofit out there.
A_lights   [Apr 24, 2016 at 11:06 PM]
We're now converting these to sloan LED especially if they have problems, but neon seems to be higher priority, at least we can use these as spares for the other stores that have outages since I am out of NOS teledyne strips

Is the Sloan stuff better? I thought Sloan was a toilet company. Laughing

haha! Razz
yeah as we speak the Sloan LED has no issues just drivers but that's rare they must've improved QC
we are flushing teledyne out with Sloan Shocked
