Hmm interesting. How is sylvania with LEDs in terms of life, color, and brightness? I've heard Philips is the best but what about Slyvania and GE?

Interesting concept, i guess having a LED that emulates the incandescent dimming curve would be pretty useful in some cases. Most LEDs stay the same colour when dimmed. Never tried Sylvania LEDs though.

I'm interested to see what this really looks like. Just not willing to spend the probably $40 or so for the lamp. This would be good for theatres. The theatre I sometimes do work at changed all their house lamps to LEDs....it looks nice but the dimming takes some getting used to! LEDs also excel for coloured spotlights...less heat on the actors/musicians, vibrant colour and no need for those gel filters that eventually wear through.

Yeah if they had diodes that are cooler colors that dim out first and warmer-colored ones that stay lit it might be better suited to dimmer applications.

A Lowes in my area recently put up an end-cap display featuring all the variations of the Sylvania Sunset Effect series (R-20, R30, and R40 reflectors) along with a pair of recessed cans, one with a regular LED R-30 and the other with the Sunset Effect lamp both wired to the same dimmer.

It appears what they did was mix some orange LEDs in that come on at lower levels to give the light a warmer tone as the dimmer is adjusted down. When I played with the dimmer, the Sunset Effect lamp seemed to only have the white LEDs lit at the full brightness setting but when turned down a little (around the 90% level) and the orange LEDs come on; giving the lamp a pinkish appearance that became more prominent as the dimmer was adjusted downward. Below the 50% setting though, the light started to get reddish and then at about the lowest level, the white leds turned off completely leaving me with only the orange LEDs who's color reminded me of a low-pressure sodium lamp.
