I've seen some metal halide highmasts here lighting a parking lot before, but I've never seen them lighting a road/highway before. The HPS ones are really common here.
These fixtures look quite interesting to me, they look like a cross between a highbay and a large cuplight.
Those here are the older ones.....Those are from 1970....First highmasts I think came out in around 1966 or something...so those are very early highmasts! Those used to be MV! I am not exactly sure what brand those are, but I THINK they are McGraws-Edison judging by the refractors...Those are the "street side house side style" We also have the 360 degree lighting design too, which are same design as above except different refractor and reflectors....the 360 degree lighting style has vertical lamps with rounded reflectors and clearer refractors (actually more like diffusers)
Thats odd the 3 MH 3 HPS, here I once saw a 16 fixture high mast each one being 1KW I believe we tend use 347 volts but some newer instillations may use 480 .
Lots of lighting systems in Canada use 347V. I've seen some 347V circuits before, but no 480V. The biggest advantage of these high voltages is the lower current needed.
Yeah, Silverliner14B is right there were mercury vapor highmasts on I-295 at exits 6A-6B-6C. They were replaced by HPS M-400 FCOs on davits. There are HPS highmasts with most lamps dead in front of the Providence place mall on I-95 too. Don't know of any MH highmasts though.
Anyway, instead of using a M1000 refractor, why don't they just mount a 1000w M-1000 on the highmast pole. That would look cool to see cobras on highmast poles.....
