More than likely installed because that’s what the lineman had at the time, I’ve done it before. This lens is also a lexalite lens. AEL uses them for their acrylic lens as well as Sylvania back in the day.

UPDATE: This has been replaced by a Philips Lumec RoadFocus RFS.
