Cooper UCD Small Shoebox

Here's a NOS Cooper UCD shoebox light I found at Restore. They said they didn't test it but since it was brand new I decided to buy it anyways. Ballast inside is a 120/240v CWI with the famous Cooper Cube ignitor. It came with a Holophane drop lens that looks similar to what my R47 used. The PC socket is similar to the old Westy style with the separate plastic ring that clamps the socket in. Unlike most shoeboxes which bolt on a tenon mount, this one has a real 4 bolt slipfitter and so can mount on any regular arm.
Interestingly the door is actually welded sheet aluminium instead of cast aluminium, the top housing is cast though. It didn't come with a lamp or a PC so I stuck in a NOS Sylvania HPS from 1992 and used a taped up PC to fire it up. It didn't come with a NEMA tag so I might slap one of mine on. Luckily I have a spare 7HPS tag. I also added a ground lug when I was wiring it up too as it didn't come with a ground terminal. I think most streetlights are like that though.
The Cooper UCD is commonly used here as path lights and in some residential streets.

Also it seems shoeboxes with real slipfitters are kinda uncommon since they mostly mount on a bolt on tenon instead of a arm. Was a bit surprised to see a real streetlight at Restore too.
I think I'll keep this HPS though since all my other lights are MV/MH.
@Matt, I fixed your link above so that it links to the right pic now.
@Mike, yeah it seems none of your guys have as much cobraboxes in your area as me They're pretty unique lights too. I probably would have passed it up if it was a regular FCO shoebox but since it had a drop lens... I don't think I've seen a gas station light with a drop lens before though.
Also found the catalogue page for the Cooper UCD too.
BTW, not sure if you have pics of these or have seen them already, but look what i stumbled upon on google maps. O_O
@Hanging Light, I guess the gallery blocked your link for some reason. If you PM me the link, I can fix the link for you. I wonder if the Cooper shoebox came with a glass FCO lens. I bet the one I have should fit perfectly though.
The first type i linked i've seen get retrofitted with these LED panels that are mounted in the empty fixture shell. No more refractor on them though. the retrofit panels are like this
Glad I stumbled upon them then! I was just "flying" over Lundey's Lane and happened to see a parking lot in the corner of the page and noticed cobrahead poles, or so i though. So i went to streetview and was like WHAT! OV-20s! LOL Looks like the inside of the store has 8ft T12s too.
Most LED refits here use BetaLED fixtures mounted in the same spots as the old fixtures. If the old lights were recessed they covered up the square hole with sheet aluminium and then installed the light over the hole.
The 4 lamp 8' T12 fixtures are quite rare here now, most I know of got retrofitted to 4' or 8' T8 or stayed T12 but got delamped to the two outer lamps. Oh and check this lot out too.
This lot on the other hand seems to random types and brands of lights on their poles. I suspect it was all clamshells though.
Wow. Were those lights individually controlled? I saw some dayburning OV-20s.
And wow again! That's quite a variety! Yeah looks like it was all OV-20s at one point. Seems like they've replaced a few poles due to knockdowns too.
Not sure if the lights are group or individually controlled though.
Yeah some of the poles in the 2nd lot have been replaced and I think there's probably around 10 different fixture models there too. Some of the poles have cobras but they still have ballast cans on them so I supposed the ballast died and they bypassed the ballast and put a cobrahead up. I'll have to get some pics sometime.
