Oh so when were the mainlighters produced? Ahh the residential light lamps are higher CRI with lower lumens and lower life? or are the differences different?
Mainlighters were made between 1969 (after the discontinuation of the 3-plus?) and 1985, after which lamps like the one above were made. Then there were meatball-etch F40CWs, then Residential Light, which is still a standard-life lamp but with the SP41 phosphor which was more lumens at 70 CRI as opposed to 62 for standard F40CW lamps. Now it's C41 (Basically CWX or so I'm told) which is like 87CRI but with fewer lumens than even a F40CW.
Ah I see. My great-aunt has a F40CW mainlighter in her garage along with a GroLux Sylvania and a 35W GE. Those lamps will all make their way to my collection along with the HPF 2X F40/RS and NPF 1X F40/RS ballasts that power them.
I will see if I can get the 2X f40T12 8ft preheater working with new lamps and starters. If i can't I will try to open it up and see what it looks like inside and I'll measure for voltage. If the ballast is good I will eventually remove it to add to my collection. I don't know if she would want a replacement since it's never been used by her (it doesn't light, it's either dead, not hooked up to power, or the switch for it is hidden somewhere...) I'll have to take a closer look at it. The lamps I have for it are F40/DX Altos and Leviton starters. Not anything I'd care about loosing. The only reason I like the altos is because they're daylight (albeit deluxe; and they're dim and flickery too at start-up, just like Sylvania CWP lamps).
I'd save the striplights they're in if you can find modern fixtures cheap at Restore. Those 2XF40 strips are cool and the single lamp version would be a good candidate for a PH conversion!
My strips are all single lamp ones, an F14, and F15, an F20, and an F40. If that F30 strip is still at the ReStore the next time I'm there I'll get it (and get rid of the undercabinet light lol)
Yeah I'll save the sockets if they're decent and I'll save the ballast from the undercabinet light. It just looked weird mounted sideways on the wall with no diffuser lol.
Undercabinet lights are good for lighting underneath cabinets though lol. My parents won't let me install lights on the bottom of their precious cabinets though which I totally get lol.
My kitchen cabinets are homemade weird ones although my dad would probably not appreciate it anyway. There's lots of fluorescent lights in my house; quickly approaching being on par with or over the number of incandescent/CFL screw in fixtures!
Mine are regular particleboard cabinets . I have three undercabinet fixtures in use. A 2x F8T5 fixture and F15T8 fixture in the kitchen, and a F30T12 fixture underneath a shelf as a desk light. The kitchen ones are both preheat, the desk light is RS.
Not necessarily. All my undercabinet lights are hardwired regardless of whether they're preheat or rapid start, though in reality they're all plug-in since they're wired to words lol.

And of course look for the stuff to make it preheat while you're there!
