Truss Lighting
|
Truss lighting used by MTO to light all the freeways until around the early 90's. Since the early 90's they have been disappearing at a extreme rate. Only some are still left and those last ones are going to be removed later or some get put onto tapered e arms

The one at 427/409 was already replaced by a overpass in the vid though. The one showing Hwy 10 back in 1989 is pretty cool too since all the mercs were still up.
Woah, wacky 80's! there were some random 50' shoebox-like lights on hurontaio in '89! End of vid has Dual signals on one arms too! Random!
The uploader said in a comment he also has vids of Hwy 7, and of Derry but they're not on Youtube. He does have vids of 403, 401 and the 407 being built among others. The vids of the 400 series shows the old MTO standard exit signs.
Bonus pic: while I was looking up some of that stuff I can across this pic It shows the 401 back in 1972 with it's 700w clear merc (in B2213s) truss lights and the HO fluorescent sign lighting intact (disconnected sometime in the 1980s).
The 2 OVX's at the traffic light are still there and this OVX
I think they left it because its lighting the on ramp for the highway 427 and that the highway lights are still all HPS
Today I saw LED's installed on the same road you did (Derry Rd.) but over the 410 overpass, offramp signals too! It looks like all streetlights on MTO overpasses are city jurisdiction. It's odd as they only limited their efforts mainly to the 410 and 427 overpass stretches. I also notice the fixtures that replace 250W and 400W look exactly the same with same amount of LED panels.
I don't know what else they'd be called.
I wonder how long it will be until the Brampton overpasses become LED as well.
