Walmart LED parking lot lights
|
A recently opened (10/21) Walmart (that I work at) has LED lighting in the parking lot lighting. The camera doesn't quite capture the color which is not quite as white as it appears. Actually kinda blue in tone so it vaguely makes the lot feel as if its lit by flashlights or reading lights. One has failed and all of them have a weird small fluctuation in brightness at times. Brightness isn't also as it appears though the lot is evenly and well lit.

You mentioned that the brightness in reality isn't what it appears in the picture. Is it brighter or dimmer in real life? Looks a little in the picture. The Walmart here is lit like day lol. I love parking lots lit by cobraheads, but usually cobrahead-lit lots are very dim. I like a nice bright parking lot since it's easier to find the car and it's easier to see people walking around when you're trying to back out of a spot, etc.
I actually haven't minded most of the LED installations I've seen here. They're a little blueish but other than that, seem to mimic a MH lamp. It's the LED fixture that I mind. LED street lights are so hideous looking. They look like aluminum waffles. The LeoTek ones look like toilet seat lids. Cooper and Hubbell make LED cobraheads, which are nice (OVH, OVF, and RMC). Nobody else makes LED cobraheads though.
And yeah, for a parking lot I'd much rather "white" light since it's easier to find your car, etc. Although honestly for regular streetlighting I'm really suprised LPS isn't more common!
The one thing I DO like about LED and induction-fluorescent streetlights is energy savings (I'm all for that, though I don't like seeing vintage MVs replaced) and the white light as opposed to the nasty (IMO) orange of HPS. It's much nicer on residential streets IMO, it feels more "moonlight-like" and "nighttimey" to me.
