Here is yet another TwistPak being replaced, I find it odd how far back they put the pole! The eight foot arm barely reaches the road in this location.
It could be that, although cobraheads do put some light on the house side. I think it might be further back so it's less likely to be hit by a motorist.
Here the lights are mounted around the same distance as the twistpack from the road. Some wood poles are less than a foot from the street curb like the pole in front of my house.
To my knowledge the refractor actually puts little light into the sky, it is mostly light reflecting off the ground that causes "sky glow" though these morons want you to think otherwise.
@gailgrv: clever way to post links to 4 documents. It's clear we are all on the same page now for sure. I have a point for glare that makes FCO desirable. I think the bigger the refractor is, the bigger a beacon effect it has. For example, I think I find it more visually distracting going down a road with low mounted AEL125's with their big drop refractors.
@Joe: I find that eves trough shade creative and it works!
FCO isn't glary until you look directly at the reflector, then it becomes very glary. I think drop lens lights are much more consistent for one, I have an idea about a possible night shot showing some FCO vs drop refractor that I may be able to take soon.
exactly, stay clear of catching a view of FCO in the wrong driection. Yeah FCO's can appear they just turned on as you approach underneath. Nice, I will be anticipating a night shot comparison.
Oh and can you say code violation?
