Well, I know the 8-8-8s on the intersection next to the Sheridan were still up last summer but the ones right next to the falls might have already been gone. I guess they changed them out since Ontario is phasing out those flashing green signals.
Are the incandescent peds with the round visors still up?
i went there last August. Such a pretty sight to see the falls lit up at night. I can only imagine the wattage of these lamps. I ate dinner in the skylon tower. Probably the best meal I have ever eaten and the most expensive too. I remember that chicken parm and those mini potatoes...
As far as I know they are powered by the regular grid. Now that electricity could come from hydro judging by the location but that's not really a guarantee, they could be coal powered, or nuclear, or gas, or wind or any other source from anywhere in North America!
Well it is quite likely that at one time they were powered by only hydro electricity, however now I'm pretty sure they just run off the grid from a mixture of sources.
Fun fact: The hydro plant there used to produce 25 Hz AC, which was used in Southern Ontario until the mid 40s or so. They even made 110V 25/60 Hz preheat ballasts at one point for use here.
