Once at Rona:
"What's in this box, and why it is so heavy" when scanning a 1kw ballast.
"I don't even know what this thing is" when scanning a box for a yardlight refractor.
And at Lowe's
"I need a price check on... what is this thing" when asking for a price check on a F32T8 IS ballast.
I bought a 18 watt LPS last year at a ReStore, I've got to find it and get a pic of it. The weirdest looks I ever got was when I was trying to fit my 12-8-8 signal in the back of the car, beside Queen St. during rush hour. I'm surprised no one phoned the police, I had permission, but they didn't know that.
I suppose everyone is too busy or dosen't care enough to call the cops. I took my signals home well hidden in the trunk even though they were all paid for.
I *ahem* may've once taken a light that was laying beside the road. I didn't feel right doing it but it had been there for months and it was just going to be scrapped. It was my 400 watt B2255, if anyone asked I'd say I was cleaning up "litter".
LOL I've never picked up a light on the side of the road because all I've ever found were destroyed knockdowns. Even with knockdowns there are good parts but any knockdowns were on the freeway so no stops lol. If i ever found a full light on the ground in perfect shape I'd consider going back at night if i could. That's once i can drive too. My parents would NEVER let me "clean up litter" like that lol.
One time I got bizarre looks at SBS (Spenard Builders' Supply, an Alaska home-improvement chain) when checking out with a "Buyer's Choice" (Sylvania) F40CWX and Advance 2XF40 electronic RS ballast, being a teenager...
