A not so great repair job!
|
here is a AEL 327 on my company's building in Springfield. The door failed a few months ago breaking the lens. Someone decide to just place a new lens in it and tape it up thinking that 3M 33 black vinyl Tape would do the trick. Well looks like round two is about to happen. Good thing is I told building Maintence about it so Hopefully they will fixt it right.

do the hinges need to be lubed up every so often?
In this case though it looks like the latch is to blame though, not the hinges. i always thought the AE latch was kinda cheesey but I don't see more AE latch failures than I do with any other brand. Coopers and GEs have their share of lach failures too. The 90s-present M-250R2s seem to be the worst with loosing doors though I see M-400R2s and newer M-400s loose doors too.
I wonder why they stopped making fixtures with door keepers. The Powerlites had either a clip or a screw at the hinge which keeps the door from popping out as easily.
Yeah AE/ITT and GE also had door keepers and I think Westinghouse lights had some sort of tab. I guess they figured if the door fell off, people would either have to buy a new door and lens or just replace the fixture.
