GE Hybrid CFL
I only purchased this lamp because of its interesting construction, and promptly scraped off all of its coating so the insides were easily viewable. This design uses a 120v, 60w halogen capsule in the middle of the spiral to provide higher brightness while the amalgam vaporises in the fluorescent tube. The lamp draws about 70w with the capsule on, and in just under a minute, a timer switches the halogen lamp off (unless lamp is hot, in which case, the halogen lamp only comes on for a second). There is a noticeable drop in brightness and colour shift when the halogen lamp turns off.

I wonder which would fail first, the CFL or the Halogen Bulb Razz

I wonder if the halogen part is designed to extinguish if the CFL itself dies?

If the CFL tube fails, my guess is you will have a halogen lamp that lights for about 50 seconds and then automatically turns off. Great for closets. But since the electronics probably will fail before the lamps, both will probably not work.
