Somebody took a tornado though the drive though?

I think the PAR lamp is the wrong lamp there, probably installed by Mr " it fits and lights so is ok"....

No..its most likely a CMH....I often see those in either HPS or CMH but sometimes incandescent on earlier ones...

Our mcdonalds had one with a reflecor CFL!

the ones here used standard incandescents. But all the McD's here got remodeled and this gismo here isn't up at the new ones.

Those setup they started using them around late 90s. I remember when those setups started popping up. Roughly around 1997 or so. The first one I saw was actually a HPS with a cylinder refractor in this similar type of fixture

Some of them are still around in my area, one of the McDonald near me got remodeled outside, but the other one built in 1984 hasn't, they remodeled the inside recently though....I have a picture of the early to mid 80s interior of McDonald's!

Some of the older McDonalds here still have this setup, I forgot what lamps they used though.
