Here is a picture showing the ballast compartment, this is where the big differences are! The 250 watt HPS light on the left is from 2002 and the 150 watt HPS one on the right is from 2003.
I think GE's cobraheads are assembled in Mexico too. Hubbel is totally American though. That's why the prices are outragous. I perfer GE of the three. I think the Silverliners are exclusive Candada so i think that's where thery're made, but I'm just guessing.
Ok, not UGLY, but not the best looking light I've seen. Ant if you install Durastars on my street I'm gonna put melted down sandwiches on you street. (LED)
Well, there's 100w HPS on 6 ft arms on my street, but there mounted on every-other pole and the pole spacing is considerably far, so the light is spotty. It's all right when driving in a car, but when taking a walk it's easy to trip and fall in the dark spots.
I think the Lumec HBS looks good, but the HBM not so much. Here 32.5 foot poles with 8 foot arms are now used with either 70 or 150 watt fixtures, in residential areas. That lights the road quite well.
150 is a bit of an over kill for a residential road IMO. 100w is sufficient. 50 isn't enough, but the electric co refuses to use 70w in new installations.
I've seen 200w HPS used on some of the busier residential streets but for optimal lighting you should use AE's recommended fixture for residential: this!
LOL Joe. I've seen 250w HPS on a regular dead end road. It's because it replaced a 250w MV OV15. For billing purposes, they have to use the nearest wattage unless the city tells them to replace the light with another wattage.
Does Cooper make them in Mexico too?
