This is where I grab all my stuff!
I forgot to take pics of my local recycling centre this afternoon so I merged two sets of two pics taken by a local reporter in May of this year. Here are all four pics clockwise, starting at upper left:

- Large appliances, fridges, cooking ranges, dryers, etc. I usually get incandescent appliance lamps with their matching sockets, preheat ballasts, starter sockets and sometimes appliance fluorescents from those.

- Computers. As you can guess, from time to time I grab some parts for my computers.

- TVs and computer monitors. I got a few nice CRT TVs in the past from there, but I am running out of room, so no more of those LOL.

- Various scrap metal. This is where I find more miscellaneous parts for my other projects. No matter what I need, chances are it's hidden in there! The pic barely represents 5% of what's now sitting in this location today!

The most beautiful thing is, I, and other dumpster divers, have not been ignored!! This year the recycling centre crew has greatly improved how reusable materials are managed. We can now dig in scrap metal almost as we wish! They probably wouldn't let me climb on the top, but I can save lighting stuff with no problem if it's not too dangerous to reach!

Sweet! I wish they had one of these places in my area that allow people to dig in scrap metal and pick out lighting goodies. Razz

There's a scrap heap at the dump/recylcing center near me. That's where my dad and I took the rusty old gazebo that used to be in our yard. Cool I don't remember there being much of anything though and I don't think people can take stuff out of there (or at least not without paying the scrap value of what you want). I've had to drop off two Plusrite MV lamps there too at the EcoDepot at the place. After that I bought a Sylvania merc for my M-400 and I've been good by coincidence. Laughing

I wish there was a place like that here in MD. Unfortunately this sorta thing is a lawsuit magnet here in the US. Crying or Very sad

Do they charge. or can you take stuff for free? My brother got free paint and small bottles of propane at a recycle center.

Most of the stuff is free! But to be honest I get more free stuff than most people coming to the place. I am a "regular customer" so they know what I take and what it's gonna be for. I am most likely the only one interested by old lighting stuff so they don't mind xD. Thanks to that place I won't have to buy a single F40 for the next 20 or 25 years. I also get some CFLs that can be repaired, fluorescent fixtures, etc. There's a long list of things I get in that place, it's literally my new hardware store xD
