Old Clamshells
Two pairs of clamshells light up this back alley of a mall. The poles are rare Polefab poles with built in arms. The rest of the lot were lit by these too (four to a pole) but they were replaced with brown poles with brown BETALED fixtures in 2012 (two to a pole).

interesting arm/pole. looks similar to the pole with the M-1000s Razz they look sorta odd though since usually arms are curved
gailgrove   [Aug 28, 2013 at 04:03 AM]
Cool! Do these still work at night?
joe_347V   [Aug 28, 2013 at 03:52 PM]
Thanks, they sorta look like a cross between a tapered e arm and a davit. I believe they still work at night too but I'm not really sure how much longer they will be up as the rest of the lot is LED.

Anyone here know the model and make too, not that familiar with clamshells lol.

Oh and they're at the back of Parkway Mall near Victoria Park and Ellesmere in Scarborough.

Maybe Spaulding or Revere? I don't really know any clamshells besides the familiar Westinghouse, GE, and Line Material Ovalite clams.

They do look like the M-1000's pole and arms they weren't pole fab though. Shocked I see where you took this, its the same concept as my photo with the M-1000's the pole in the middle and the straight arms. They look like Joslyn Clamshells.
streetlight98   [Aug 29, 2013 at 03:12 AM]
ahh yeah i forgot about joslyn. i think your're right about it too... Smile
joe_347V   [Aug 29, 2013 at 03:53 AM]
Yeah, they sorta look like Josyln and plus the Polefab poles were actually made by Josyln at one point. Razz
Model25FanForever   [Aug 29, 2013 at 03:59 AM]
They have the boring flat shoeboxes now
joe_347V   [Aug 29, 2013 at 04:08 AM]
Yeah, BetaLED fixtures Razz in the typical shoebox brown too. BTW, I found a night shot of the now removed clamshells in the lot.
Model25FanForever   [Aug 29, 2013 at 04:14 AM]
I think they could have atleast used bigger fixtures they don't cover as much as the clamshells did.
joe_347V   [Aug 30, 2013 at 06:16 AM]
Yeah, I think using the same number of fixtures per pole would help too. They effectively halved the number of fixtures during the replacement of MV clamshell to LED.
vintagelites   [Nov 30, 2013 at 03:08 AM]
For sure Joslyn 400 watt MV131's
joe_347V   [Apr 04, 2016 at 10:16 AM]
Surprisingly these are still up even though the rest of the parking lot has been LED'd in 2012.
streetlight98   [Apr 04, 2016 at 11:49 AM]
And they still work too? Cool. Cool
joe_347V   [Apr 05, 2016 at 02:51 AM]
Not sure if they still work but I would assume so.
