OVX's are being turned down now for OVF's when it comes to new median aluminum poles. All 2013/2014 aluminum pole installs have been OVF's instead of OVX's.
Aw too bad they're using FCO now. Even those these are medium size fixtures, the reflectors are really no bigger than a small fixture's. they're actually shallower and if you look from underneath you'll notice that the bowled part of the reflector is smaller than the size of the refractor's footprint. ED/BT37 lamps won't fit in these unless you use a drop lens according to their spec sheets (and the OVD, drop lens version of this, was discontinued). So these actually might not fare any better than the OVXs lol. It's a shame that they're not using FCO 125s. FCO 115s look weird though lol, at least IMo they do...
I saw one new OVF as a spot replacement for a M-400 FCO, but there haven't been any recent new lighting systems installed on the freeways (aside from that horrid Mongoose installation on I-95) so I don't know if they're Cooper all the way now or if it was just a one-time thing. They're redeveloping Rte 6 (which is the freeway with the bridge that's held up with steel reinforcements and used to have 5ft tapered elliptical poles with M-250R2s here.
The freeway curves to the right and there used to be a ramp that continued straight. I know, weird set-up... Anyway, the on-ramp and off-ramp in the center are gone now and the bridge to the left is gone too, leaving a regular at-grade curve.
I had sent many complaints about how this curve was dangerous with no light working (not one of these lights had worked evern since I was little) so they had eventually installed an overhead feed on this one light but they never changed the lamp or PC so even though the light had power, the light was cycling. The PC was good though so it wasn't a dayburner. According to the overhead feed, these were 120V lights. My guess is that the mercs were 240V with 120v PCs and upon converting to HPS they just used 120V lights and bypassed the second hot wire, like they did with wood pole light. The M-250R2 is an older pre-1992 M-250R2 too with the old style GE deep glass. This first generation of the M-250R2 still had that vintage look to it IMO. They had fixed a few of the lights but they only worked for about a month before returning to their dormant state lol. There's still a few M-250R2s left here. You can see they light one half of the interchange and the OVFs on davits pick up after the bridge. Before, the whole freeway was M-250R2 on trusses but not one of them worked so they just installed all new lights. I had always wondered why they had stopped the relight project there but they did that because the were planning to redevelope the interchange behind that last link so they stopped there. I'm guessing all the truss and tapered elliptical poles with M-250R2s will be removed but who knows... I've seen stranger things lol.
In some ways Ngrid's streetlight maintenance is no better than here. Theres an OV-15 by mean thats been dead for 2 1/2 years and yet 2 R37's were AE 115'd half a year ago. Iv'e been meaning to report it out for a while but ive been procrastinating. I really hope that this model 25 stays in service through the whole construction and when its done. Theres no work to be done on that side anymore except for paving. I really hope they move it to one of the new concrete poles just like they did the OVZ in the background, OVX, and 115. Just get a new longer arm like so and remount it. That would be great! I like the M-250R2's I wish it was common here their numbers here dwindle to the dozen. Our last ones are located around Wiilliams pkwy and Highway 7 (Bovaird). They are all 70w. Then we have that one M400-A. Hopefully they don't use waffles on your interstate
LOL NGrid's lighting maintenace is nothing short of a joke. They're pretty good with maintaining wood pole lights but freeway lighting repairs require a police detail and it's apparently too much work to ensure the safety of drivers at night...
Ah yeah there are a couple lights that NGrid just won't fix for some reason. There's a M-250R2 on Park Ave in Cranston that has a dim lamp (in the 90s GE had a huge bad batch of 250W HPS lamps that ended up loosing vacuum so they couldn't build up enough heat to warm up so they get stuck in the warm-up phase. They end up being around the brightness of 50W HPS with the color of LPS and they apparently never die since they've been working since the 90s lol) I sure hope they keep that model 25! They're nice lights!
You can have some our M-250R2s if you send some R37s. I like the M-250R2 but they are more common than any other light. That's why I'm reported all the bad 250W HPS lights now while NGrid is installing Cooper OVZ for 250W lol. I like the Cooper OVZs with the new glass a lot.
Guild and Holley electric usually service around here I dont see how 2 years later it hasnt been noticed. We have bountiful ammounts of R37's i would trade some for GE M250'S . OVX's i would trade them for wood LOL, i really dont like OVX's
LOL yeah OVXs look like something out of war of the worlds. I don't mind them but i don't like them nearly as much as i do the M-250R2. I like the OVX better than the OVX too but my favorite original Cooper designed lights are the OVC, OVS, and OVM. I like the L-150 a lot but that's technically a Westinghouse design.
I like the OV-15's a lot both the American one by Westinghouse and Canadian one by Cooper. I think i'd rather see metal waffles than OVX's on some roads.
I like the OV-15s but they're not Cooper-designed lights. The OV-10IB lights are my favorite small Westinghouse fixture but it's not really a cobrahead. My favorite Westinghouse cobrahead is the OV-15. My favorite light of all time is the GE M-250A.
Yeah they installed the AE 125 FCO's a few weeks ago, I saw them putting them on the arms. Its funny how its taken almost 3 years now to finish that intersection. Its all finished and nice but they just haven't configured the new traffic lights yet.

Yesterday I was on a long bike ride to here, temp signals running the intersection at 5pm. Today, drove by and there was no sign of any of the temporary signal poles, new signals in action. The median high FCO's on Steeles are super close together, and yet didn't seem to throw light far enough to the street sides....
There are temporary wooden poles between Clark and Balmoral behind the existing poles and beside them all the way up to where the first median pair of OVX's are at Clark.
yup, was hoping I'd see those poles being/erected on my ride that way. Thy're putting in median poles the whole stretch, or else they'd just put new streetside poles now
I could imagine that they would. Hopefully they dont use OVF or OVX. It would be nice if they used AEL 125's FCO or Drop lens, and some eagle signals instead of fortran
The AEL125's at the Dixie $ Steeles intersection must be highly inadequate. Even with high double 400W median arms on all four sides, they now installed high concrete poles diagonally at the streetside of all four yield corners. More painted 125 FCO's. The intersection looks like a pinwheel of streetlights now lol
