UPDATE: I believe what looks to be concrete bases between Queen St and just north of Steeles Ave for Steel aluminum poles on this side of the road all the way. The city road pamphlet did mention streetlights being installed here though.
yet another lighting project for our city in the depths of winter. I wonder what the chances are we'll see our first LED's for a main artery upgrade project. I want to see Kennedy Rd S get this work done before they spot replace all the concrete poles in the existing configuration!
Yeah, they seem to like leaving everything last minute.. The signal upgrading at Mclaughlin and Charolais just started in November. Last time I was there they had only poles and arms up in tact. One of the old CGE signal poles got knocked down and they have been using a wooden pole with single ped Fortrans. Now that its a new year the odds of seeing LED for these upgrades is probably higher than last year and previous years.
I now know the OVX is going as well. Now they put pylons on every concrete base. The OVX's on the side of the Hydro lines seem to be left untouched. Im wondering if they are going to do the same as they have in m@'s photo. I can imagine the use of LEDS here is very likely
This stretch looks like its ready to sprout poles soon this winter. Doesn't it seem like 90% of roads like this with new lights use high poles with 400W HPS? For some reason I feel these won't be those high poles. Clark and Bramalea had the signal poles reconfigured recently moving median cobras to the streetside as seen here, and they reused the old arms and lumes. I'm not considering it as hint to the height of the expected streetlights as this stretch has a lot of intersections recently replaced with high 400 watt OVX's. They could do a number of things here. If they install lower poles, I bet they'll keep lights on the powerline poles, but lower their height and intensity. This whole project could be due to those OVX's mounted too high in the powerlines, being out of code.
Yeah that intersection is odd looking. I actually watched them take down the median OV-15's and R37's before they were where they are now. I would have figured they were going to move the other 2 median poles. Yeah it could be an issue with coding. That stretch also has the odd old light on the old wooden poles too. The remaining old powerlines are realllly old too. Theres a streetview from 2007 showing some reallllly old stuff hereWhenever I come by Bramalea road at night the southbounds lanes were always dark!
UPDATE: Today they were installing tapered e arms with OVF's on the hydropoles today. Lower from where the lights are now. 250w. The side with this R47 and OVX is still unknown what will be used.

This city really likes their HPS for artery roads. But nice to see they're lighting both sides of the street! Well at least they didn't take a step back, the Countryside Drive project installed some notorious OVX-on-high-concrete-poles in the fall . I will now place my bet for the west side: 250W OVFs on 8' tapered aluminum arms on shorter aluminum poles. I saw a Langley truck driving along the road, maybe they won this project bid?! I note them for installing used or uncommon equipment, perhaps to cut corners/price! A nice thought is there is a likelyhood Langley will salvage the depicted R47 and use it on a spot replacement project who knows where.
I saw those OVX's too. By airport? Thats good to hear! It would be awesome if they use the west side with all refurbished fixtures. Im guessing the same pole specifications as well. As far as the Cobra, Im guessing OVF or FCO AE 125's.
Maybe but not likely use the R47's and OVX's from the east side lights on the west side. That would spice it up a bit.
Well M@, We guessed it! Some of the new lights have been installed!
It is Aluminum poles with 8' tapered e arms with 250w OVF's. Yes the R47 and the OVX will be coming down at somepoint going by what I am seeing. I will get a photo soon.
When I saw some of these tall poles back in August when I was up in Ontario on vacation I thought these poles were a bit overkill. Then again, I'm used to the short poles used here.
