Look closely...
I discovered this GE M250 in Barrington about a week ago when I drove past it and it wasn't on. Came back during daylight and discovered that it's missing the bottom cover as well as the lens. Reported it to ComEd.

It has been replaced with a new GE M250R FCO 250 watt HPS.

Right. I am noticing more light like this with the cover gone. One of them was working fine. I wonder if it's to indicate which lights are to be replaced?

They do that with fixtures here in western mass. They take the door and photoeye off to mark a replacement.

The doors on the 60's GE lights are extremely hard to get off by trees or anything like that, so most likely they're removing the doors for a purpose. Here they still relamp mercs. if it has something wrong, they replace it while they are there instead of removing the door and comeing back
