WOW!! they just put a new MV light in it!!! [1000w MV] Cool

Sweet! Yeah since 1000W MH ballasts can still be sold in the US, one can order one of those and run a merc in it with no problems.

??? will a 700w mv light work on a 1000w MH ballast??? Question
joe_347V   [Dec 24, 2012 at 02:52 AM]
For some ballasts, yes since they used the came core and coil for both wattages. In those ballasts you still have to lower the capacitor by a few MFD. Most 1kW ballasts use a 24 MFD cap and so to configure it for 700w lamps you need to change the cap to 19 MFD.

THANK YOU! So New cap and I am all set? How would I get a 19 MFD cap?

Try eBay, lighting/electrical places or motor stores. Make sure to get either a HID lighting cap or a motor RUN CAP. Do not get a motor START CAP since those are not rated for continuous operation. Make sure that the voltage of the new cap is higher than or equal to the voltage of the old cap (or what's listed on the ballast label if it's still readable).

Also if the cap does not have a discharge resistor fitted make sure to discharge the cap before playing around with it to avoid getting zapped.
