the light that is out.

This is the one on I-295 at Exit 11? If so it's HPS. This one is actually in old Blackstone Vally Electric territory. They started using HPS fixtures before Narragansett Electric. This one's cool because it has a plastic lens. Smile
traffic light1   [Dec 27, 2012 at 01:09 AM]
Wow it is???? At night it looked mv! Thank you!
streetlight98   [Dec 27, 2012 at 01:18 AM]
Maybe it is. No need to be so rude about it. Confused Rolling Eyes It's been a while since I've been by this at night and i thought it was HPS. If it is MV it'll have a dark blue "40" tag. If it's HPS it would've had a golden "25" tag when installed but it would be a silbvery/white by now since the foil tags are known to loose their golden hue over the years. The other lights at the interchange are all 250W HPS so this is more than likely either 400W MV or 250W HPS.

I was not trying to be rude, sorry. Sad you are right it is harder to tell with the lens looking like that It is most likely 250 hps then. Sorry. Sad I was just saying I looked mv but I think you are right. I was thinking it was MV because of the way it would look when the light was on the street. Sorry Sad

Oh no it's fine! I guess i was just a little on edge when i read your comment. Wasn't such a great day today. Come to think of it it may be MV. It will be 400W though if it is. Did you say this shut off when you were going to take the pic? Is so you may have seen a cycling HPS lamp. When the light down my street cycled it looked JUST like a MV lamp since it used up all of its sodium but it's would only stay on for just under a minute.
traffic light1   [Dec 27, 2012 at 12:02 PM]
I have seen it start up and it starts up like a MV but the light looks not so good with the lens like that. but yes it will go off and then will not go on for a long time Confused
streetlight98   [Dec 27, 2012 at 03:59 PM]
Hmm... This sounds like the classic case of a HPS lamp cycling that has used up a lot of its sodium. How long does the lamp stay on when it turns on? I know you said it’s off for a long period of time. If you can, go to the light when it’s very sunny out and bring a pair of binoculars. This way, you should be able to see what kind of lamp is in it. If the lamp is MV, it should be large and coated like the lamp I showed you from my M-400. If it’s HPS, you won’t be able to see the lamp very easily since it’s so thin and it’s clear.

BTW, do you know about that abandoned rest station in between Exit 10 and Exit 9 on I-295 South? There’s M-250Rs on wood poles and wood arms! I want one so bad lol. I saw them working at the place once so I hope they left the lights alone. Crying or Very sad
traffic light1   [Dec 27, 2012 at 04:31 PM]
Sorry they were taken down and are on the ground. They are 250w MV.
streetlight98   [Dec 27, 2012 at 04:50 PM]
Oh no! Sad Did you/can you get any? Do you know how many there were? Are they still on the ground? Aw man I wish I could get one! Sad I had a feeling they were 250W MV. 175W or 100 just seemed too low. Since 400W is too much for them they wouldn’t be 400W. Do you know what voltage they were? Man! This is such bad news for me that they’re no longer up. Are they all in a pile or something? Did you get pics? (Sorry, I know I’m probably driving you nuts with questions. I’ve been stalking these lights for a while. Laughing )
If you get the chance to talk to any of the crews working there could you save the photocells for me and possibly a glass lens or two if any are crack/chip free. I’d love a whole fixture but I have no place for one. Neutral Anyways, if you can, thanks a TON! If you can’t, don’t sweat it. Wink
traffic light1   [Dec 27, 2012 at 07:26 PM]
I will try Sorry not all are on the ground I think just 5 are on the ground.
streetlight98   [Dec 27, 2012 at 07:58 PM]
I think there was only like seven or so to begin with so I guess that’s not a biggie. Where is the pile? Is it insight of the freeway? Is the actual rest stop opened now or is the Jersey barrier and locked gate still there? Thanks again! I was hoping they’d hold off on any construction until I got my own house so I could get a full light. Sad

It is in the back there was 10 lights.

Hey, Mike maybe you could build a shed or something to stick your unrestored lights in. Razz Take the ballasts out and store them indoors though.
streetlight98   [Dec 28, 2012 at 12:52 AM]
@ Bryan; Ahh cool. Since some were 400, I’m guessing some of them were not M-250Rs (since they were only made in 100, 175, and 250W MV) Were the 400W lights M-400s or were they Westies?

@ Joe; I wish I could build a shed. Razz Even if my parents would allow me to do that I don’t see spending the time and money since I’d only get a few good years out of it. I need to rent a storage unit Laughing I guess I’ll just have to put a cork in my light collecting and enjoy the lights that I do have. My two Westies themselves are pretty darn rare and the M-250A is one of my favorite styles made (plus it’s even cooler being made the same year and month my mom was born). Plus the M-400 is NOS so it’s pretty cool too. And I still can get vintage fluorescents as long as I can mount them somewhere! The only place left is the garage (I’d need to save a lot for a beam finder though since it’s a finished ceiling). After that I’ll have to start putting more lights up in the utility and laundry room for display (since I don’t think my parents would want to pay the extra on the bill for more lights being hooked up. I guess that’s good for storing spare lamps or displaying vintage ones! Hopefully I can buy a ranch instead of a raised ranch since I live in the latter now and there is barely any unfinished space to store lights. (Well there’s really not much space at all!) I want a nice big basement and a nice secluded yard for all my lights. Laughing Of course I’ll probably have to come up with a better paying job than an electrician if I want that heheh. Well at least we’re all free to dream… Smile
