Hmm. What street and city is this in? That may help some. it appears this has a replacement lens. it is either 100 or 175W though since the electric company would have used a glass replacement lens on this if it was 250W.

Well often in my expereince with my friends in electric company...a yellowed refractor is rare with 100 watt, but a bit more common in 175 watt....but a 250 watt CAN yellow....In my area they stopped using plastic on 250 watt (they used to use plastic on 250 watt, but stopped) so it is possible it's a 250 watt and a dumb lineman used plastic..

Do you have any wattage tag on wooden poles, my area does have that for post-NEMA times.

no, 100 watters do yellow here. A lot of the M-250As that Joe M got had yellowed plastic lenses and they were all 100W and had coated lamps. The plastic lenses were formed plastics ones like above. those are prone to yellowing becuase they're thicker. I have yet to see a 250W merc so i'm not too convinced this is 250W There are plenty of 100W mercs here that have yellowed lenses. ususally M-250A2 FCOs that had the flat glass break and replaced with a FP lens. If this is 175W though it will be replaced by a HPS upon servicing. Sad

I've never seen pole NEMA tags either. I guess the lineman brought up one of each kind of lamp with him in the bucket. Neutral Even with NEMA tags you need to bring a few different wattages with you since you don't know if it was a repalcement door. Usually if the door gets replaced NGrid will rip off the incorrect NEMA tag and right something like "50 SV" for 50W HPS i've seen that before.

The lens got yellowed in only 6 or 8 years.
Antstar85   [Feb 27, 2013 at 01:53 AM]
I've seen yellowing on 100 watters.
streetlight98   [Feb 27, 2013 at 02:02 AM]
Before the past 8 years it wasnt' yellowed? That's pretty odd since this lens has to be at least from before the 90s since NGrid uses acrylic replacement lenes which don't yellow like polycarbonate. So the lens is old yet it only started yellowing recently. I guess it's possible if the UV resistance has worn off (if that's possible). What street and city/town is this in? Odd how this is on a road with 250W lights since that means the road was originally lit with 400W MV. I wonder... Could this be an OV-400? The lens would have yellowed shortly after it was installed though if they were the case...
GullWhiz   [Feb 27, 2013 at 04:37 PM]
Dude...OV-400 would MELT the plastics! I've seen it man....they do better in larger fixtures but still yellow.....I bid this is 250 watt MV.....I have a yellowed refractor that had a 250 watt dayburner and dayburned for more than 7 years and looks very much like this pic!
streetlight98   [Feb 27, 2013 at 09:51 PM]
Maybe... Have you ever seen 250W MV lights replaced by a HPS other than 150W? NECo must have chosen a different wattage since 150W HPS are non-existant here. There not even on the list of options for NGrid. I'm guessing the older 250 watt MV fixtures were replaced with 100W or 250W HPS.

OK yes, this street light had no lends 8 years ago. the old one was missing Sad
streetlight98   [Feb 28, 2013 at 02:05 AM]
vandals. Mad Laughing did you see how big the lamp was?
traffic light1   [Feb 28, 2013 at 02:23 AM]
No I was not with them and I never got the look at the lamp 15-8 so I was only 7 years old.
streetlight98   [Feb 28, 2013 at 03:01 AM]
Ahh yeah i forgot you're a year older than me so you wouldn't remember the lamps size. I bet this might be 250W MV. That or 175W, though it could be 100W since I've seen a 50W HPS mixed in with 250W HPS before so i suppose this could be a 100W merc mixed in with what used to be 400W mercs. that's the beauty of NEMA wattage stickers lol. Though they're not always right either if the door was replaced... That lens would work great with a clear merc! the light would be a beautiful lime green. I use my yellowed polycarbonate lens (looks just like the one above) on my GE M-250A when i use the clear lamp sometimes since the yellowed lens makes the light look greener and it diffuses the glare from the clear lamp (which is why i typically prefer coated lamps, at least indoors, since there's a lot of glare from looking into arc tubes lol.
traffic light1   [Mar 03, 2013 at 01:25 AM]
It would be way to light to be 100w
streetlight98   [Apr 04, 2013 at 08:46 PM]
Is this on Wilson Ave right near Pawtucket Ave in East Providence?
traffic light1   [Jan 24, 2014 at 11:29 AM]
It was removed Sad
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2014 at 10:58 PM]
What wattage is the new light? (or did they not install a replacement?)
traffic light1   [Jan 24, 2014 at 11:11 PM]
East providence has spent their way to Greece, 250w hps is now 100w hps 100w hps is now 50w hps and 50w hps is now 35w hps the new light is 50w hps. some 400w hps is now 50w hps Shocked
streetlight98   [Jan 24, 2014 at 11:37 PM]
35W? National Grid doesn't offer any wattage lower than 50. Neutral they must be AEL or Cooper lights? Can you get some pics? in Providence i noticed they changed many of the 250W HPS lights to 400W HPS.
traffic light1   [Jan 24, 2014 at 11:50 PM]
I will look closer, I never seen a 35w out side east providence.
streetlight98   [Jan 25, 2014 at 02:03 AM]
It makes me wonder if East Providence bought the street lights from NGrid to eliminate all of NGrid's fees. That would mean that East Providence owns the lights and hires a contractor to service them. And since they's own the lights, they can install whatever they want. Even metal halide street lights if they wanted. I'd love to see that but i don't think that PSMH is going to catch on with street lights since the lamps and fixtures cost more and the lamps don't last as long, though PSMH is pretty close to HPS in efficiency.
