Oh these have T8 balalsts? Is this at your dad's work or some place else? they would be very dim on a T8 ballast (and they do look dim in the pic). These fixtures were probably 8ft T12 originally.

Not at my dads building. This was in Mass.

I've seen this odd effect with F34T12s where the center brighter than the rest of the lamp
traffic light1   [May 26, 2014 at 10:08 PM]
The old lamps were t8
streetlight98   [May 27, 2014 at 01:35 AM]
Yeah it looks like the four dim lamps and the dead lamp with the silver ends are T12 and the others are T8. I guess the owner saw that the T12s were cheaper than the T8s and figured two watts wouldn't make a difference lol.
A_lights   [May 27, 2014 at 01:36 AM]
Well the lamps won't run at 34W anyway, probably 30W like a T8 on NBF would run

Walmart Laughing
streetlight98   [May 27, 2014 at 02:58 AM]
No i mean they probably bought 34W lamps, figuring that there was a minute difference between 32W and 34W. Confused

This is at a WALMART? Shocked now that really surprised me! Which WalMart? Since this is Walmart, the fixtures were actually 8ft T12 originally, then got converted to 4ft T8 and apparently they just stuck 4ft T12 lamps in the fixture lol. To be honest though, I don't get why they spent the extra cost for materials coverting the lights to 4ft when they could just use 8ft T8 lamps. With 8ft T8 they could have kept everything as it was and just swapped out the ballasts. Simple as that. Not they have twice as many lamps to maintain. Also, one 8ft T8 is 59W whereas two 4ft T8s together are 64W, which is ten watts more per 8ft fixture. Now let's say there's 100 8ft fixtures in the store (as these are really 8ft fixtures mounted end-to-end in a row) then that's 1000W extra they're using! This is 540 kWh per month (a month being 30 days with the lights running for 18 hours every day). This is a serious difference so WHY does almost EVERY place go with 4ft T8 retrofits instead of 8ft T8 retrofits? Confused the 8ft retrofits look better too.

T8 8ft is the best! Very Happy This was at Namco in Mass but I have seen walmart do the same. I put walmart because they are Very stupid when it come to emergency lighting. Auto Zone does it right with the lights.
streetlight98   [May 28, 2014 at 12:01 AM]
Oh Namco makes more snese. WalMart is pretty strict, the only allow GE T8s lol. Though the WalMart on Plainfield Pike on the Cranston/Johnston line had cool white Altos. They're older Altos. But the newer lamps are GE. I actually saw one or two Sylvania lamps at that WalMart too which really shocked me since WalMart hasn't ever used Sylvania. Their contractor must have been short on GEs and just snuck in a couple Sylvanias lol. Yes I agree that 8ft T8s are great! The 8ft T8HOs are kinda bad (the ballasts that is) but the T8 8ft slimlines are great. It's a real shame that they're not used. I suspect it's just because 8ft lamps are incovenient to transport and store. They're more expensive than the 4ft ones too but if you think about it, one 8ft lamp is like two 4ft lamps together so it makes sense that the 8ft ones are more money.

I don't like walmart Sad
streetlight98   [May 28, 2014 at 12:19 AM]
LOL I don't like the way they treat their employees (but then again, not many big coorporations treat their employees well) but they do have low prices...
traffic light1   [May 28, 2014 at 12:23 AM]
Free market is very good, The employees can work at Target Cool BUT as we move away from the free market walmart gets more power and the employees are stuck Sad at $7 an hour Crying or Very sad The only times the free market has not worked is with exit signs, street lights.
streetlight98   [May 28, 2014 at 12:28 AM]
I heard Target isn't that great of a company to work for either. the shoppers just have a little more class lol. You don't see 300 pound shirtless gorrillas eating food off the shelves at Target. Shocked Laughing
traffic light1   [May 28, 2014 at 12:31 AM]
They are better for when the power goes out Laughing

GEsoftwhite100watts   [Jan 31, 2015 at 01:57 AM]
It's reverse energy retrofitting! Laughing
I've used F34T12 lamps on an F32T8 ballast before too without any issues, other than them being noticeably dimmer than the T8s. But I was short on F32T8 lamps at the time, and it was in my own house.
And I'm currently using a F40T12 on said ballast too. Again, no isssues so far/
Yeah, Walmart can treat their employees pretty poorly it seems. My mom used to work in a Walmart, but not for Walmart per se, for Halmark Greeting Cards, but in a Walmart store. I think she made $9 an hour. $7? Wow! I thought federal minimum wage was like $8 or even $10 nowadays! (an hour).

I am removing lots of f32t8s for T12HO-E LOL Cool
