H43 Post Top fixture Acquired this from a local Re-store. It was made in 1980 and it has a 75 watt H43 MV ballast. Not to sure of the brand. Unfortunately after wiring it up and applying power, I'm only able to measure 124v at the socket. Is the ballast winding's have an open somewhere? Keywords: American_Streetlights

This may be a dumb question, but could it be a 240V ballast?

Heh, it turned out (at least from the same pic that got posted on LG) that the ballast was actually bypassed and a CFL was put in.

Ah so maybe it was 240V and that's why it was bypassed?

It was me that posted this fixture on LG lol. The fixture is wired for 120v and the ballast was bypassed to run a CFL bulb. Why anyone would do this is kinda beyond me. It turns out the ballast is in good working order Smile

They probably couldn't find a lamp for it locally lol. At least they didn't use the CFL with the ballast connected. Laughing Shocked

Yeah 75w MV lamps are quite hard to find locally. I've found one before on clearance at a hardware store. The other possibility is a cheesy lighting refit. I see this done often to 175w MV recessed cans. They remove or bypass the ballast and install a reducer and then screw in either a CFL PAR or in more recent refits, a LED.

I guess technically a 240v CFL will work straight off the ballast. Laughing

That's exactly what I thought when I discovered it at the Re-store. I was kinda bummed out tho when there was no high run time dimmed out 75 watt lamp included. Any one have such a lamp they'd trade for a brand new Philips 75 watt MV lamp?
