Possible Craigslist score
I found a Craigslist listing with 10 400w HPS Line Materials Unistyle's for $30 each. The seller also claims to have "2 similar mercury vapor cobra heads with bad bulbs" for $15 each. This is only a 5 minute drive away from me so I might go check it out. (It's actually at a surplus store). I might end up getting the 2 mercury vapor lights instead if the ballasts are OK and the lamps are just dimmed out (they said they could test the lights before you buy them) but otherwise I will probably just get a 400w HPS unit. Would anyone else here be interested in one? I could maybe buy more and sell them to members here for $30 plus the price of shipping if anyone is interested. Even better is that these are multitap but wired for 120v.

Awesome! Yeah go for the MV ones if you can, as those likely have the original ballasts. These were never made in HPS AFAIK so they were retrofitted at some point.

Check the tags on them as well. Shallow refractors may mean McGraw-Edison versions.

Looking at the PC socket position on the top, this is probably the McG version. The LM ones had the PC socket positioned as if it were going to "fall off" the slipfitter end of the fixture.

Yeah, I would go for the MV ones too if you can.

Actually, Line Materials' mid-60s Unistyles also had the P-Cell in the forward position. The only indicator, believe it or not, was the glass.

Alright, I will probably try to get the 2 mercury vapor lights first. Were these made in a max of 400w or did they go higher? The seller actually says they were all converted from mercury vapor to HPS (well, except 2 of them) and I was wondering if it could be possible that the 2 mercury vapor lights could actually be 700w or 1000w. I don't know why they would replace 400w MV with 400w HPS. Also, I found a street view of where I think the lights came from.

No, the housings are not Unistyle 1000s. They will accommodate up to 400 watt.
