No problem, Andy! Yes the ballast is 100% original! I replaced the wires for the starter circuits and pull chain but the ballast leads were in decent shape so they were kept as-is. Added the inline 1A fuse too just in case anything goes haywire with the ballast. Any fixture I've gotten with a dead AdLite had had a passive failure though, so hopefully there's nothing to worry about.
Haha! Yeah it was a pretty scary experience. The extra couple bucks it takes to fuse the light is well worth the peace of mind it brings. Although the ballast may not draw enough extra current to trip the fuse in all modes of catastrophic failure, it should at least help limit the damage. I use 1A fuses in all my fused 2X F40T12 lights (and I only fuse the older ones without thermal protection, so they're mostly rated 0.8 or 0.85 amps) so it's a pretty close match. I suspect that if I went any lower I might experience nuisance fuse burnouts. General rule of thumb is loading a breaker or fuse to 80% of tripping capacity so at 0.8A, a 1A fuse is perfect following that logic.
