Yep. U-bolt slipfitter and dual levelling bolts are the tipoff. If it had the four bolt slipfitter then it would be the 1954-1960 version.

I'm working in that area again tomorrow. I'll see if its still wired.
GullWhiz   [Aug 03, 2011 at 01:37 AM]
And the ones from 1947-1952 are stamp aluminum instead of cast aluminum.... I have two of them click here to see me with them

I checked out this light today and it appears to still be wired. It's feed from another pole will a 60's m-400. The next thing is the night drive to see if it's still working!
GullWhiz   [Aug 03, 2011 at 02:12 PM]
Take a pic of that M-400 and I will let you know what generation it is! (unless you know!) Is it a very early 60s, or a mid 60s or a late 60s version Wink

I have 1 picture of it but it's not to good. It has gray paint, I know that much. I'll upload it later, maybe you can see from the shot I got.
GullWhiz   [Aug 03, 2011 at 05:18 PM]
The grey ones is between mid 60s to late 60s

UPDATE: I drove by this light on the way to a job this morning and it's still shining bright! Good to see the old man working. Very Happy

YAY! Very Happy Coated merc?
Antstar85   [May 06, 2013 at 04:30 PM]
*UPDATE* This fixture has been removed from service from a road upgrade project and has been replaced with a 400 watt HPS GE M-400R3. I was unable to save it.
streetlight98   [May 06, 2013 at 07:24 PM]
Hmm sounds like NGrid with replacing mercs with the same wattage in HPS. Laughing though NGrid probably would have used a 6ft upsweep arm to replace the nice underbraced arm.
Antstar85   [May 06, 2013 at 07:27 PM]
The pole was moved back 15' and an 8' cantilever bracket now holds the M-400R3.
streetlight98   [May 06, 2013 at 08:30 PM]
Ugh they didn't keep the nice underbraced arm either? Mad Sad NGrid tends to replace them becuase of the remote ballasts typically attached to them (PCBs) but Narragansett Electric typically left the old remote ballasts on many of the arms. When a pole is upgraded they'll keep the arm though and just to transfer the ballast can.
Antstar85   [May 06, 2013 at 09:27 PM]
We never save old arms. I have actually taken 2 year old arms down and ended up throwing them away because they don't save anything, just pit up new.
streetlight98   [May 06, 2013 at 09:36 PM]
Aw man that's a shame. I guess NGrid really isn't that wasteful then. Razz The weirdest thing is that they will remove old stuff and put up new stuff out of the blue yet sometimes when a new light is installed, they'll use an older tapered eliptical or cantilver or even a truss (though the light is always new). I've seen old brown insulators used when a cross arm breaks too where the old ones were gray. Sometimes the replace, replace, replace with new stuff and sometimes they end up replacing something with something else that had already been taken out of service. They're so unpredictable lol. Well, at least they never fail to keep me entertained at the least. Even though i hate seeing old stuff go, it's always interesting to see what they replace and what they keep. It seems to be totally random to, no particular pattern.
Antstar85   [May 06, 2013 at 10:23 PM]
Yeah we are new, new, new but will tend to still move old arms over from time to time.
streetlight98   [May 07, 2013 at 12:07 AM]
when you personally do a pole renewal do you usually transfer the old light and arm or is it the policy to replace it?
Antstar85   [May 07, 2013 at 10:25 AM]
I normally just transfer the old bracket unless its in bad shape. If I do out up a new bracket, I will move the old fixture over if it still works.
joe_347V   [May 08, 2013 at 12:12 AM]
Too bad it's gone. Most lights and arms on utility poles are transferred over but lights and arms on standalone poles get trashed and replaced during a pole replacement.

Looks like Westinghouse OV-20 to me.
