MTO setup
Another typical MTO setup. As you all who live in that area know, I think this is when I was on (Peel) RR-3 going through Streetsville. The power lines are kinda big here for distribution ones.

Nope, do not recall ON-3 Razz. Maybe that's what it was called back before development, but these streets often now have word names when in populated areas.

In the US state routes also have street names.

I think Ian might be referring to the former ON-5 which is better known as Dundas street since the MTO delisted that section of highway in the late 90s. It's the only possible I could think of that might intersect with Erin Mills.

The maps says it is "ON-3" so that was what I was going by. I wish I was able to see some of you when I was up there, though when I entered the country from Detroit the officer in windsor may question me cause he asked "are you meeting anyone?" I would say yes if I had plans, getting back into the US the officer searched my car (getting into New York) cause either it was random or he was suspicious cause he asked the same question and I said yes cause I was meeting a friend in Maine from online and he was like "where did you meet this person?" and I said "online" then after a few repeat questions he was like "give me your keys and pop the trunk" and he just seemed to feel around a couple bags and containers in the trunk but never took anything out or put anything out of it's place. Interesting experience but I guess when crossing country borders you are subject to a search. Plus I think I picked the strict officer...

I can confirm Britannia road is Ontario 3.

Yes, it shows this clearly on Google Maps.

There's even a route number sign so it's gotta be current. The route number is actually visible in Ian's picture too if you look to the right of the "signal ahead" sign in the enlarged picture.

Yeah they keep the route numbers but MTO doesn't maintain or service most of these streets anymore. Region of Peel I believe does almost all the work on the former MTO route numbers but later with development they came under Peel jurisdiction. Highway 10 (Hurontario) in Brampton between Bovaird Dr and Mayfield road and between Hurontario to the highway 410 on Bovaird may still be partially serviced by MTO due to both have Polefabs that dont get replaced by concrete poles since typically polefabs get killed off by concrete poles, and some spot new pole replacements still happen from time to time. The intersections that got revamped for a bus route along the Hurontario-Mayfield were replaced by Peel region setups streetview comparison btn the MTO setup and Peel region, then and now. The part that makes me think it isnt MTO is that they retrofitted almost all the OV-15's there with OVX's and AE 115's which is definitely a Peel region move.

Hmm interesting stuff. Yeah the jurisdiction of roads here gets messy sometimes too. For instance, there are some roads which carry a state route which are maintained by the city they pass through. An example would be RI Rte 12, which begins in Scituate, RI as "Tunk Hill Road" and maintained by the state. It then turns into "Scituate Ave" and stays state-maintained. Then it turns into "Phenix Ave" and later "Park Ave", which are both city-maintained roads despite still carrying the state route number. Some roads also carry multiple routes.

Do you have "national" routes in Canada? The United States had US routes, which pass through multiple states, typically going cross-country or at least between regions of the country. Those are all state-maintained, including freeways and interstates. There is a federal DOT, USDOT, but they're a government agency that sets standards and guidelines for roads and highways. Some more rural areas have county routes but that's not really a thing in the northeast. I think it's more of a midwest thing where there's miles and miles of nothing lol.

Ahh that's actually a Peel Region Rt. 3 sign, or RR-3 (Regional Road 3) which is I guess like a numbered county route in the US. They're maintained by the regional municipalities (I guess the similar to a county in the US). As for the ON-3 confusion I guess whoever entered the route info in at Google mistaken it for the the MTO owned ON-3/Hwy 3 which runs from Windsor to Fort Erie. The ON-XX roads or known by the MTO as the King's Highways are equivalent to state routes. A special class of MTO highways, the 400 series are kinda the interstates but since there's no national freeway system here, each province maintains and numbers the freeways.

The Trans-Canada highways are basically the only national routes here that have special signage. For the most part the provinces are responsible for signing highways here so there isn't really a unified system like in the US.

Yeah, I was wrong, google maps have a different shield for the sign for this road than the Ontario Routes, so, as I am not familliar with the Canadian shields so I got mixed up.
