Hmmm weird...I think the gas station owner/management should find someone better at maintenance. Confused
Silverliner14B   [Oct 26, 2010 at 03:57 AM]
Too cheap eh?
GullWhiz   [Oct 26, 2010 at 01:10 PM]
Apparently.....Nutcases! But maybe it's just a temporary solution!
joe_347V   [Oct 26, 2010 at 05:32 PM]
Now that's just tacky looking! Wonder who decided to do this Confused
gailgrove   [Oct 26, 2010 at 07:27 PM]
Shocked Why would any one do that?
Parrot   [Oct 27, 2010 at 12:27 AM]
It just looks so cheap! Is there a ballast still in there?
TiCoune66   [Oct 27, 2010 at 12:31 AM]
It's ALMOST good-looking Laughing

(Translation: What the hell??? XD)

Well...the gas station...ironically is a big company gas station...not some private owned ones.......from what I saw on a quick look...they installed two of those fluorescent buckets....one on the top of the building...

I checked again....only one shoebox fixture still works......I believe there was 3 of them there.....this one only one has the bucket...and at an entrance from the big main road...the other one that worked was at the other entrance....

Mt There_I_Fixed it has been here...........
magicbluelights   [Oct 28, 2010 at 08:37 AM]
Looks it even has a CFL in it, lol
SeanB~1   [Oct 28, 2010 at 04:55 PM]
I was at The Old Fort today, and the lamps outside ( acorn style units) have had a retrofit from the lousy HPS lamps to a spiral CFL unit. Who knows, they may last almost as long as the incandescent lamps that were originally installed in these fixtures, that date from the 1970's or so.
Form109   [Oct 28, 2010 at 09:04 PM]
looked to me like its one of those Fluorescent Blasters....i have seen them in this style.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Oct 29, 2010 at 12:04 AM]
Now that's strange.
Tmcdllr   [Oct 31, 2010 at 09:58 AM]
That is....um....beyond crappy! I think that is the most bizarre "conversion" I have ever seen. And the really stupid thing is it was probably more work to remove the lens, reflector, ballast components, screw or bolt in the bucket, that it would have been to just change the lamp or ballast in the shoebox.
GullWhiz   [Nov 02, 2010 at 07:12 PM]
It is a bucket that accepts CFL lamps...It may be a 65 watt Fluorex which requires EXTERNAL ballast of the right kind.
Form109   [Nov 19, 2010 at 09:01 PM]
didnt they make 65 Watters that could Screw right into a 175 Watt MV Fixture?
GullWhiz   [Nov 23, 2010 at 07:18 PM]
Yes they did but the shape of the lamp was different...more shorter U shaped more fatter appearance looking lamp...
streetlight98   [May 30, 2011 at 02:06 PM]
Do you know the wattage of the other one that works?
GEsoftwhite100watts   [Nov 25, 2011 at 12:10 AM]
seems like "gas station lights" occasionally get tacky modifications done to them.
