Well, I wonder how long these Philips Hadco RX1s will live since LEDs have longer average rated lives than HID bulbs.
gailgrove   [Jan 28, 2012 at 11:53 PM]
Well nowhere near as long as they are rated to last, many Westinghouse Lifeguard lamps would of lasted much longer than these. The thing is with a mercury or HPS fixture you can screw in a new lamp and your back in business, with a LED you must replace the whole fixture... Confused

And plus if the electronic driver in them is anything like those electronic fluorescent ballasts, the driver will blow long before the rated lives that are slapped on to these.

HID is still more reliable imo, and plus the reliability of MV and to a lesser extent HPS has been proven in the real world, where as the rated lives for LED fixtures are still theoretical.

These should last the winter fine- it's the heat that kills these...
Antstar85   [Jan 29, 2012 at 11:18 PM]
They do make replacement LED sticks for fixtures. Also if a HID fixtures fails you usually replace the whole fixture. Wink
joe_347V   [Jan 29, 2012 at 11:33 PM]
They still haven't been really tested for the long term though. Confused

streetlight98, I've seen these Philips Hadco RX1s during Boston commutes last summer and they're just fine.
Antstar85   [Jan 30, 2012 at 12:20 AM]
I agree with you joe, only time is going to tell to see how LEDs preform.

That's my dilemma...I don't care for HPS but I hate to see classic fixtures get replaced with ugly LED....but prefer the LED color over HPS any day.

I like these Philips Hadco LED streetlights. I wonder how much one of these costs. I may get one if its not too expensive.
tpirman1982   [Feb 08, 2012 at 11:21 AM]
Well, I eventually desire one, too since there are none in my area. So lemme know when you find out the price of one and where to buy it 'cause finding one on the ground would be a rare find. There are none of them on eBay. I'll begin puttin' some money down for one, too.
gailgrove   [Feb 08, 2012 at 12:47 PM]
Try the $1200 price range! That is around about how much these sell for, and David is there a reason you refuse to collect an OVX but will take one of these? Confused
tpirman1982   [Feb 08, 2012 at 01:08 PM]
YIKES! I'll have to look around Boston during future trips to Boston and see if one had been knocked off the pole after any future severe weather conditions that include strong winds and see if any RX1s fall off and land on soft grass, dirt or mud. And gailgrove, the OVX isn't one of the classic kinds like those I grew up with when I lived in Roslindale. In fact, there were no OVXs in the 80s when I lived in Roslindale. I could either hope for one to pop up on eBay at a price lower than $1200. My current range is about $200, or find one on the ground. I just gotta be sure to carry some tools with me during commutes around Boston in case I do see an RX1 LED luminaire fallen down on the ground. I know that'd be hard, but it's a stretch.
gailgrove   [Feb 08, 2012 at 01:10 PM]
And this is a classic?
joe_347V   [Feb 08, 2012 at 03:17 PM]
I'll install a Duarstar before I regard LED lumes as classic. Rolling Eyes
GullWhiz   [Feb 08, 2012 at 03:29 PM]
LED will be classic when "Gull Methane Vapor" comes out Laughing The most efficient light of all, but the smelliest! Laughing

I have no choice but to adjust to LED lighting since Holyoke is saying buy the end of 2012, early 2013 that 90% of the city will be converted to LED streetlighting. My road is slated to be replaced by summer acording to the linemen I talked to the other day. Bye Bye M-400A. Sad

Man I wish I was a linemen for Holyoke, I'd be able to save a few of the old M-400A's and M-250A's here.
mercuryvaporrocks   [Feb 08, 2012 at 08:55 PM]
That's terrible news, Tarentum Borough in PA might be replacing all their HID streetlights with LED streetlights in the near future also. Sad
streetlight98   [Feb 08, 2012 at 09:12 PM]
So sad to see all these good lumes go in the scrap dumpster. Some of the lumes being scrapped probably wouldn't have even been in use for a year. Mad Sad I don't know what I'll do when LEDs coem to RI. I read something online published in 2010 that Cranston and Providence were going to test LEDs in the spring-summer of 2012. I haven't heard anything about it yet. I'm just hoping I don't wake up one morning to LED. Shocked They said Providence was testing about 75 LEDs and Cranston close to 150. I'll have to find that article...

Gull Methane Vapor is not efficent at all...and is very combustable therefore its obselete. Smile

anyways even with the color i prefer HPS to LED...now i'll take induction.
