GE Constant Color CMH 150w
That is the lamp that I have purchased few days ago. Smt went wrong with it and it went ka-boom. Here you now see the lamp in action with all leaked gas from the arctube. Nothing was wrong with my setting. I have used the correct ballast, ignitor...etc. I have no idea why the arc tube has exploded like that. thanks god that the outher jacket has done it's job well. Never and ever test mh lamps in open fixtures. the result can be very harmfull.

Thanks for the example.....funny thing I have some European lamps...and I found one of my HPS from Europe was filled with sone gas outside of the arctube, unlike our american lamps......so this also explains this purple glow, plus the gas that was inisde the arc tube came out...

What you are seeing the argon discharge and bit of dose of Mercury vaporizing on the leaked bulb Very Happy

Philips CMH lamps are preignited 3 times before they leave the factory, or at least this is what they say in a pdf document that I found. They run the lamp for 15 minutes each time for just this reason; early lamp failure. Does GE preignite their lamps?

Hmmm, interesting fact, I didn't know that! Maybe they skipped that lamp by accident? Sometimes lamps bypass an inspection and some lamps get to shelves with factory flaw like Dave has those two reflector lamps without reflective coating on them!

It is quite possible that this lamp might have been dropped to floor before I get it. a minor crack in the arctube has caused this damage right after my test...Still I am really sad about that lamp...
