Ah was this not lighting? Around here they had a LOT of 105W incandescent fixtures (radial waves, crescent moon, and admiral's hat types) and they got replaced with 100W mercs in the 60s through the 80s (probably using more energy because of ballast losses lol, though requiring much less frequent servicing, especially since some had the original lamps or only the second lamp when removed in the mid-90s). They replaced the 100W mercs here with 50W HPS or 70W HPS (one electric company used 50W and the other 70W).
I really like the look of incandescent. For intermittent area lighting I still use 105 watt and 300 watt incandescents. For dusk to dawn I use 4200 lumen 68 watt CFLs. They actually put out a very decent light - a little more than 50w HPS, with a much better CRI.
